Wide

I`ve been a skinny pants devotee for the past few years, so I`ve totally forgotten how flattering a good wide legged pant can be with a pair of heels. My legs felt so long in these!

In completely unrelated news...are you guys as excited for the Olympics as I am? Seriously cannot wait. I`m not much of a sports fan, but something about the Olympics has always made me happy. My favorites are hockey, curling, speed skating and bobsledding.

Snow Dump

Gap Dress; Old Navy Scarf; Connie Boots via Famous Footwear

So...the snow finally arrived in mid-Michigan. Things are nice and white around here and not a moment too soon. Nothing like snow to really make it feel like Christmas.

I finally got started in my Christmas baking today. See, we don't actually ave an oven right now. For the most part, this is just fine. I can cook most of our daily meals in the slow cooker just fine. But cookies...well, that's a little tougher. However, I'm happy to report that my toaster oven did a decent job on my molasses cookies. Who knew?

Nanny Style: Yellow + Teal

yellow top, teal statement necklace, skinny jeans, flats

Thrifted Vintage Top, $2
Handmade Necklace, $16
JC Penney Skinny Ankle Jeans, $25
Payless Flats, $10

Say hello to the only not-awkward photo we got of this outfit.  I love this top and the color combo though, so I wanted to share.

I'm missing how the weather was the day I wore this.  The snow has since returned and I'm back to boots.  The first day of spring yesterday was ushered in with another inch of the white stuff.  It'll quit eventually....right...?

An Ode to the Skirt

navy top, grey pencil skirt, brown booties

Ahhh, another week!  I think it's gonna be a good one.  My husband starts a new job this week, my parents are coming, and we're expecting our tax returns to come through. Good stuff, my friends.

I miss my skirts.  Since I've been spending most of my days working as a nanny, pants are usually the most practical option for daily wear.  And I'm discovering that there's a lot of great ways to wear them and still look stylish.  But I still miss my skirts and really look forward to wearing them on the weekends and date nights.

So I put together this outfit just for Kimmie's link-up today.  I thought her idea of re-styling one of the oldest items in your closet was way too fun an opportunity to pass up!  When searching through my closet, I discovered that this teal top is one of the few things to survive the many closet purges I've done the last few years.  I thrifted it in college (maybe even before, can't remember) and it just keeps hanging on.

I gotta say, I felt pretty hipster in distressed skinny jeans and sneakers.  Not my usual look, but it was super comfy for a casual dinner out and wandering the mall over the weekend.

Also, do not be concerned, I have a date with my hair stylist today.  The shag pictured above will be no more.

Hooray for another outfit challenge!  I saw the button on Coffee and Cardigans and excitedly signed up over at Megan Mae Daily.

This teal top just keeps hanging on.  It has made it through countless closet purges, has been stained, rescued, and remixed over and over again.  It owes nothing, and keeps on giving.  Definitely one of my favorites, and one I was glad to pull out yet again for day one of the Fall Colors Fashion Challenge. :-)  I'm not totally sold on the skinny jeans look.  I usually wear wide leg jeans with heels or flats to balance out my hips.  I've seen other curvy bloggers rock skinny jeans like this though and look awesome, so I thought I'd give it a shot for the day!

Remix: Teal Top

I had a super busy weekend. My little brother came down to visit and my husband came home from his week away.  In the midst of all the fun, not a single outfit photo was taken.  And sometimes that's the way it should be. :-)  So I hope you'll enjoy this remix post today!

I've had this top for so long, I don't even remember where or when I bought it.  I'm pretty sure it was thrifted, and purchased sometime during my first two years of college.  It's one of those pieces that always flattering and super versatile.

Grays on Repeat

Francesca's Dress ($14); Pamida Cardigan; Gap Flats ($5); Fair Trade Necklace via Local Shop ($16)

I wore this outfit a few months ago and it never got photographed.  So like any good blogger, I wore it again so I could post it. ;-)  I wore this last week for getting some groceries and thrifting.  I had a REALLY great thrifting day.  I found a great pair of boyfriend jeans that don't look ridiculous on me as well as a replacement black and white striped shirt, some t-strap heels and a really cute tunic.  The first 3 of those things have been on my "to thrift" list forever.  Success. :-)

I'm currently hanging out with my husband in Minnesota while he is going through job training.  Jeremy was born out here and his dad is from MN, so he has some family in this area that I've gotten to meet.  I don't see much of my husband during the day, but sometimes just sitting in a hotel room all by yourself is just what you need to relax and recoup. :-)

EBEW: Color Blocked

It's been a while since I've participated in EBEW, but I'll gladly layer on as many colors as I can squeeze into an outfit. :-)

My husband and I are in the Lansing area house sitting for my sister and her husband this week.  Let me tell you, it is SO MUCH HOTTER here than it is in the northern part of the state.  This probably would have looked better tucked in, but there was no way I was going to force more clothing to touch my skin than absolutely necessary.  Nice loose, comfy outfits are the way to go when it's nearing 100 degrees...

The heat is also forcing me to do something with my hair besides just blow dry it.  Enter the twisted bangs.  Keeps them out of my face and adds some interest to my pony tail.

Humidity

Target Dress; Gift Shop Necklace ($16); Shopko Sandals
I loved the mix of dressy and casual from Grace's inspiration image.  So I decided to take a "dressy" little black dress and add some casual flat sandals and beachy beads.  Done! :-)

In other news, the humidity has returned, as you can tell from the above frizzyness.  We also drove around with the windows down all day so that did some damage to the hairs too.  Poor things....never stood a chance today.

I Made This Skirt

Walmart Tee ($5); Gift Shop Necklace ($16); Self Made Skirt; Walmart Flats ($10)
Say hello to my new skirt! I made it all by myself using this tutorial.  I've been wanting to make myself some skirts for so long, but fabric is SO much money (not really, but I often feel like I can buy a brand new skirt for the cost of the fabric)!  I was finally able to find some I liked for super cheap at Joann's during their Memorial Day sale.  I got this lovely pink, a striped jersey, and a cotton floral all for around $10.

Sidenote: Yes, I am posing by some over sized spools.  They were discarded during the construction of the local wind farm, and they were free, so of course my dad had to get some. :-)

Vintage Jewelry and the Dress Search

Old Navy Hat ($16)
Old Navy Cardigan ($11)
Kohl's Top
Old Navy Jeans ($30)
Connie Boots via Famous Footwear (clearance, $40)
Vintage Necklace via a flea market ($2.50)
Vintage Bracelet via a flea market ($5)

I apologize for the less than awesome photos, but I really like this outfit!  I had just gotten the necklace and bracelet the day before, along with two other bracelets, and was excited to wear them.  I decided to keep it simple with the black and let the colorful necklace be the focus.

I'm usually not much for bracelets, but I really like this one.  I've been wearing it every day since I got it!

I wore this on Saturday for a day out with my husband.  Part of his Valentine's Day gift to me was a "coupon" for a new dress.  I have never had such a hard time finding a dress I liked as I did on Saturday.  We walked all over the mall and to several other stores as well, and I finally found one for just $8 at Burlington Coat Factory.  I swear, most of the dresses out now are either 100% chiffon or really slim fitting, either of which are really "me"!  Oh well...it was still great to have a nice lunch and spend some time with my husband before we start packing and moving. :)

How was your weekend?

Stains Be Gone

Top: Thrifted ($3)
Jeans: Old Navy ($30)
Boots: The Shoe Dept. ($20)
Scarf: Walmart ($5)
Earrings: Etsy ($0.50)

Somewhere around Christmas this top got some fierce grease stains on it.  I was devastated; this is one of my favorite tops.  I tried all kinds of things trying to get it out, until I discovered THIS.  It was a miracle.

I love the detailing and slight puff sleeves on this thing.  It's a go-to top for me when I just want something loose and flowy that still looks put together.

I'll be wearing this outfit to an end of summer BBQ/FRG meeting later tonight.  I have also decided that it's cooled down enough around here to embrace my scarves and boots.  I am SO ready for fall.
