Sweet Style: January 18

Thrifted Dress (similar)
Modcloth Cardigan (here)
Target Leggings (here)
Thrifted Booties (similar)

Oh hey, an outfit. Getting dressed hasn't been a top priority lately. I still don't have a job, and we've been spending a lot of time working on the house lately, which means wearing junky clothes that I don't mind getting wallpaper paste, paint, and sawdust on.

I threw this on to go out to lunch and run some errands with J yesterday. When I do get dressed, I've been really digging my neutrals lately.

The Wait is Over

draped top, leggings, over the knee boots
Modcloth Cardigan (here); Target Jeggings; Modcloth Boots (similar)

J bought this cardigan for me for my birthday almost a month ago. Unfortunately it was the wrong size so we had to send it back. A few days ago the new size came and I'm so happy with it! This top is insanely comfortable and looks great either zipped or unzipped. I can't wait to wear it to death this winter.

Lazy Days

orange cardi, striped tunic, leggings, over the knee boots

You guys, I've been so lazy this week. Do you ever get in that mode where the less you do, the less you feel like doing? Yep, totally this week. I'm still jobless, and have very little to do beyond housework. I've found the key to times like this is just to get dressed and leave the house, if only for a little while. Today I went to the post office and city hall to pay a bill. Neither of those things needed to be done until next week, but hey...I needed to get out.

How do you beat laziness?

I don't usually go for the tunic and leggings look, but it's Friday, and I wanted something cozy and easy for the snow storm and to wind down from the week.  We've had a pretty good week around here: I worked, Jeremy had a great interview (so great, we are fully expecting an offer (fingers crossed)), and I got our taxes done yesterday.  I also started working out again this week.  I forgot how good it felt to start a day with exercise. :-)

Have a great weekend!

JCP Dress, $20 (similar)
Connie Boots via Famous Footwear, $40 on clearance

I've worn this outfit so many times before. I've probably even blogged it. But alas, I love it, and it's what I wore this week.  I know I sing the praises of this dress all the time, but seriously.  It's amazing.  I just wish I could find more like it.

Speaking of finding clothes, I've been trying to find some tunics to add to my nanny wardrobe.  I'm thinking tunics and leggings would be a great alternative to tee shirts and jeans, while still being comfortable and easy to wash.  I'm looking for ones that are modest (read: not too low in the front), cheap, and loosely cut.  Sadly, most tunics I've found are more of a body con style, which I don't really care for or feel comfortable in.  I'm looking for something like this. Or this.  Something with a bit of structure at the waist or bust. Long sleeved, preferably. Maybe I should just shorten some dresses?  If you have a favorite, affordable tunic, let me know. :-)

I wore this on Tuesday to go vote! Had I known I'd be standing in line for TWO WHOLE HOURS I'd have worn some flatter shoes.  Michigan really needs to get in on the whole early voting thing.  Although I'm glad to have the opportunity to vote, that was a bit silly.

I've been having a bit of trouble finding another nannying gig.  I'm not really sure why; I've been applying, following up, all that jazz, but I've had very few replies.  It's a bit discouraging.  I was supposed to have an interview today, but it was cancelled.  No explanation as to why.  I asked if we could reschedule... no response.  Part of me wonders if one of my references is telling potential employers that I have diabetes before I have a chance to myself.  Which is frustrating on an entirely different level.

I just want another job.  Or at least a chance at another job.

I Didn't Actually Wear This

Rue21 Floral Dress, $9 (similar)
Thrifted Pink Sweater, $3 (similar)
Thrifted Belt, $2 (similar)
Arizona Boots, $50 (similar)
Necklace: Garage Sale Find, $0.50

The title says it all.  I put this on a few weeks ago for date night, and for whatever reason it just felt wrong.  I promptly changed into jeans and a black top, which I also photographed.  These photos turned out better though, and I actually think I liked this outfit more. I'll have to recreate it and..ya know...actually wear it for a whole day. :-)

I'm kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel for posts right now. In addition to my husband being gone for the week, I've caught a nasty cold.  Both of those things mean a lot of lumpy sweatshirts and not very many photo opportunities.  I'm hoping to be back at it soon, I thrifted a few things last weekend that are just dying to be worn!

Pin-spired

Forever 21 Sweater, free with gift card (similar)
Thrifted Skirt, $0.99 (similar)
JC Penney Boots, $50 (the real thing)

This outfit was definitely inspired by this one that I found via Pinterest last week.  I love the mix of neutrals in the inspiration, but I couldn't help but add a fun burst of fall yellow to the mix. :-)

I have been resisting leggings and tights like crazy this fall.  Whenever I put them on, I feel like they just don't go with what I'm wearing.  So this is my subtle, sneaky way of trying to get myself used to leggings again.  Can't argue with grey on grey.

P.S. I posted my homemade coffee creamer on instagram a few days ago, and here's the recipe!  I have been enjoying the pumpkin spice I made and can't wait to make some peppermint mocha in a few months. Also, it's super easy.  You probably have most of the ingredients in your house right now.

Two years ago yesterday my husband and I came to this very place and he proposed.  It's a beautiful little park on Lake Michigan with a cute pier where we sat at sunset as he pulled out the ring. :-)  We marked the occasion by reliving our day.  We ate at McDonald's (cause we're classy like that) and walked hand in hand around the park, reminiscing about all that's happened over the last two years.  We've lived in two states, he's had two jobs, and very soon we'll live in our second apartment.  Hopefully that's not a trend and we'll stay in our next situation a bit longer!

Happy Monday. :-)  Hope you all had a great weekend as well!

P.S. I'm guest posting at Sew Sew today on how to spot vintage at your local thrift store! Check it out!

Grey Dress, 3 Ways

Today I'm highlighting another favorite of mine: a simple grey dress I got at JC Penney for $20.  It's great both worn by itself or layered!

How would you wear this simple dress?

A Few Things I Wore Recently

Well hello! :-)  Now that you've seen everything I've worn the last 2 weeks, let's take a peek at what I've worn more recently, shall we?

I have about half a dozen things in my closet that I hadn't worn yet, so this week I made an effort to do so.  Most of them were relatively new, but a few got lost in the move and finally were found again!

Saturday: Francesca's Dress ($14)
Pamida Cardi; Thrifted Belt ($2); Gap Flats (clearance, $12); Fair Trade Necklace via Uniquely Yours ($16)

Ok, so this is new. I'd never been in a Francesca's Collection before our trip, but I loved it! I could have bought the whole store, but instead walked out with this dress and a pair of earrings.

Monday: Vintage Pink Skirt ($4)
Polka Dot Top via Burlington ($7); Vintage Necklace (was Grandma's); Thrifted Cardi; So Flats via Kohl's ($9)

A few of the items I had were things I bought with my shop in mind and decided to keep for myself, this skirt being one of them.  Best thing about this skirt? Pockets. :-)  It might still need a hem, but I love the color and the adorable buttons.

Tuesday: Floral rue21 Dress ($9)
Thrifted Belt ($2); F21 Leggings ($5); Wanted Boots via The Shoe Dept. ($20)

I just got this dress when were were in Colorado.  I love the print and the cut, and was eager to wear it to get my hair cut on Tuesday.

I'm still playing around with how I want to do outfit posts, so bear with me!  Not sure if I want to do a whole week, or 3 at a time or...something else.  We'll just wait and see. :-)

Diabetes + Style

Target Scarf ($14); JCP Dress ($20); F21 Leggings ($5); Wanted Boots via The Shoe Dept. ($20); Vintage Bracelet ($5); Mudd Earrings via Kohl's ($4.50)

This was a bit of an experiment on different ways to wear a circle scarf.  I'm not totally happy with it, but it kept me a bit warmer, and kept my hair out of my face.

HAWMC - 4. I write about my health because...

...I want to reach people.  I combine writing about diabetes and style because I feel like I can reach a different audience that way.  There are lots of diabetes bloggers out there.  But I've noticed that the only people them seem to be interacting with are each other (which is AWESOME for getting and giving support.  Don't get me wrong there).  My goal with this blog was not only to blog my way through dressing better, but also to be able to tell others about diabetes who may not otherwise read a diabetes blog.

Denim Skirt to an Army Ceremony

This post is gonna be a little more photo heavy that my usual outfit post.  My husband took some especially awesome photos, and I can't resist sharing more than my usual 3.

Really old blue top, probably was a hand-me-down {similar}
Mudd Earrings via Kohl's ($4.50) {similar}
Old Navy Leopard Scarf ($5) {similar}
DIY'd Denim Skirt from a pair of Levi's (jeans cost $20) {similar}
Forever 21 Leggings ($5) {similar}
Soda Boots via Burlington ($19) {similar}

I wore this on a very busy day last week.  My husband finally received his getting-out-of-the-army award, which entails a ceremony, which we found out about a whole 3 hours before it was scheduled to start.  He had to rush home to get me, but I got to be there:

They let me pin him. Which was both awesome and extremely awkward at the same time.
We had to stick around a bit afterwards until my husband got off, and then we rushed home again to get ready for dinner with friends.  It was a long, long day, but a good one. :)

I'm Moving = Guest Bloggers Needed!

Dress ($20): JC Penney
Wrap Cardi ($7.50): H&M via Consignment
Necklace: Gift
Leggings ($5): F21
Boots (clearance, $40): Connie via Famous Footwear

I'm not gonna lie: getting dressed has not been my top priority this week.  The last few outfits were from over the weekend, and I'm glad to have taken them in advance.

I have a lot going on right now.  I won't bore you with the details, but I will mention that we have a big move coming up next month.  My husband's active duty contract with the Army will be ending, and we will be relocating to my home state of Michigan.

This both excites and terrifies me.  The military life is rough, but it also provides a lot of security in the form of a steady paycheck, health insurance, and many other benefits.  This isn't a lifestyle that either my husband or I enjoy, so we are glad for the change, and glad to be moving closer to my family.  However, it is quite nerve wracking not knowing what we'll be doing a month from now.

And with that, I will be putting out a call for guest posters!  If you have something you want to share here between March 12th and...sometime... shoot me an email and we'll talk. :)  I'm looking for posts that are on topic with this blog: outfits, modest/frugal style, thrifting, diabetes, etc.  If you have a moving experience to share, I'd love to hear about that too!

Please email me before the end of this month!  I'm looking forward to hearing from you. :)

Today I'm dressed for both Bloggers Do It Better (wear red) and Everybody Everywear (wear red and pink)!

I'm generally not a fan of this color combo, but I think the darker red makes it work for me.
