Sweet Style {2.4.15}

Thrifted Beanie; Kohl's Scarf; Swapped Sweater; Gap Factory Jeans; Modcloth Boots

So we finally got some real snow around here. I can't really complain, it's been a pretty mild winter so far with only one other major storm (and that was back in November). This latest one managed to dump a foot of snow on us in 24 hours, which was pretty impressive.

I wore this for a grocery run with my sister. It was warm, cozy, and allowed me to feel somewhat put together after 5 days of being sick. I'm a big advocate of letting your body heal itself and medicating minimally, but I finally broke down and bought some NyQuill today. My quality of sleep through this cold has been in the toilet, so tonight we change that.

Happy Wednesday.

Sweet Style: 1.21.15

Vanity Blazer (similar)
Hanes Tee (here)
Jean c/o American Eagle (here)
Connie Boots (similar)
Kohl's Scarf (similar)

I usually wear a skirt to church, but for the month of January, we have nursery duty. Which means I have to be able to sit on the floor with 1 year olds. Which means pants. The blazer made it feel a little dressier, and better yet, it's a stretchy cotton. Perfect for nursery duty.

Well, it's happened. While there was no snow when we took these photos on Sunday, there is now snow covering absolutely everything. I generally don't mind snow, but it's so early, you guys. I shouldn't have to deal with this for at least another month. Amiright?

Happy Veteran's Day! J and I are celebrating by heading out to Red Robin for a free burger. Cause there's nothing that says "thank you" quite like free food.

Hope your week is fantastic so far.

Sometimes J and I just take a random weekend and skip town. It's so good for our mental health; we really need to do it more often. This past weekend we headed 2 hours north to Houghton Lake, Michigan. The fall colors were gorgeous, and although it was freezing, we had a great time.

Classic.

Gap Jeans (here, on sale!)

This outfit is such a fall classic. Stripes and a scarf with easy jeans. My favorite.

Mid-October is peak color time in mid-Michigan, so we've been really enjoying the beauty of fall this week. My camera and I are happy, and so are my boots. How are the colors where you are?

Editing photos on my husband's computer is weird. I had an insane graphics processor on mine, and photos always looked positively gorgeous. Not so much now. Ah well, moving on...

What have you guys been up to this week? I have been working through the new and updated version of Think Like a Pancreas. After spending the better part of last week dealing with a lot of diabetes related crapoola, I finally ponied up with $10 for the new kindle version of this amazing book. Let me tell you, it was well worth it. The first edition was great, but it's wonderful having all kinds of tips and tricks to use with my CGM. I haven't been able to read this fast enough.

BTW, I wore this for day 3 of me made May. :-)

It was 50 degrees the day I wore this. And I woke up to a fresh coating of snow this morning. Oh Michigan.

It`s been a week full of little stressors. The brakes on my car threw a fit on Monday and had to be fixed. The baby I nanny was insanely fussy on Tuesday and no matter what I tried, I could not make it better. I washed a pen by accident and it bled all over J`s shirt. It snowed 6 inches Wednesday and driving around was rough. I have no idea why it`s not the weekend yet.

Please wake me on Saturday.

Above Freezing

Guys...it is supposed to be 36 degrees today. I can`t even remember the last time it was above freezing and I'm insanely excited.

I've spent the bulk of my week so far reading Divergent. I checked it out of the library on Sunday and am already almost done. What can I say? It is ridiculously good. I thought it would be way too similar to The Hunger Games, but I was wrong. There are a lot of little nuances to the story that make it really interesting, and way more in depth than THG was.

Have you gotten on the Divergent series boat yet?

Coffee Date

Thrifted Sweatshirt; Kohl`s Scarf; JCPenney Jeans; Modcloth Boots

I wore this to meet a friend for coffee recently. I was crazy excited to find this sweatshirt at the thrift store. The fancy sweatshirt trend is one I've been wanting to try out and it does not disappoint. Socially acceptable pajamas all the way.

Let me tell you a few awesome things about having short hair:

1. Huge scarves. My hair was just the right awkward length before that it hit scarves weird. Now I can wear a giant, chunky scarf and bam...no weirdness.
2. Huge earrings. Suddenly you can see them! Amazing!
3. Bright colors. Maybe having short hair just makes me bolder but I suddenly feel like I can wear as many bright colors as I want and can do no wrong.
4. Confidence. It`s odd to say I suddenly feel like myself again but it`s true. I was hanging on to a safe cut that wasen`t quite me. When I let it go my confidence had room to grow again. Weird how a simple hair cut can be such an emotional experience.

The Start of An Age

indigo dress, mustard scarf, stripes, boots slouchy heeled boots indigo dress, mustard scarf, stripes, boots
Gap Dress; Thrifted Striped Top; Kohl's Scarf; Thrifted Boots

I keep staring at this blog post kind of unsure what to say. I'm sitting on my couch, listening to one neighbor's obnoxious music, and another neighbor's yelling. My patience for living in an apartment in the city is definitely waning. Thankfully, we'll be moving very, very soon.

Have you guys seen Once Upon A Time? I recently managed to get my husband addicted and he's been slowly catching up via Netflix. It's fun to have a show we both enjoy. :-)

Happy Tuesday.

Perfect 10 Remix: #7 and #8

Two more outfits for you, and two more to go!  It was a rainy weekend so we had to take both of these inside.

yellow top over chambray, jeans, flats
Kohl's top; JCPenney Chambray; Gap Jeans via thredUP; Payless Flats

When I planned out my outfits for this challenge, this one wasn't in the original mix. I'm definitely a fan of it though.

chambray dress, fleece tights, booties
ModCloth Dress; Thrifted Belt; Fleece Tights via Burlington; Payless Booties

This dress finally made it! I definitely should have chosen something else in it's place. My lifestyle just does not support regular dress wearing and this is probably the only wear it's going to get during the remix.

Did you wear anything fun this weekend?

Perfect 10 Remix: #3

yellow top, skinnies, booties
Kohl's Top; Thrifted Tee; Gap Jeans via thredUP; Payless Booties

This outfit isn't my favorite. But, it's comfortable, and it was still way too hot today to wear more layers than this. So, this is what we have. I'm trying to experiment with other ways to layer this yellow top. It's just sheer enough that it needs something underneath it, but the white tank I usually wear gets a little boring. I'm pleasantly surprised how well this grey tee looks!

On a completely unrelated note, have you ever tried any gud products? I just bought their grapefruit thyme shampoo and am super happy with it! My hair hasn't been this happy in a long time.

Nanny Style: Ketchup and Mustard

yellow and red yellow and red yellow and red
Thrifted Top (similar), Thrifted Old Navy Shorts (similar from ON), Gap Flats (similar)

Hellooooo September! I don't know why but fall always feels like a good time to make a fresh start. The weather is changing, kids are going back to school, and life is settling back down. It also doesn't hurt that fall is a season of celebration for us, with both my husband and I having birthdays, plus our anniversary. And then it's Christmas time. Ahhhhhh.

I finished out the summer with this fun ketchup and mustard color combo. This is another nanny style trick I employ on a regular basis. Bright colors can really make up for a lack of layers, jewelry, etc, and create a more interesting outfit.

Nanny Style: Conundrum

yellow top, blue shorts
yellow top, blue shorts
Kohl's Top, $10
Thrifted Shorts, $3
Old Navy Sandals, $5

I've had this colorful combo in my head for a couple of weeks but it's been too cold for shorts. It finally hit 80 degrees again so it was time. I always have mixed feelings about what to wear this time of year. It's almost fall and my boots and sweaters are beckoning. But...it's also still 80 degrees out most of the time. Quite a conundrum, as you can see.

How do you make the fall transition?

Off Duty: A Day at the Park

green dress, brown and yellow sandals, brown shoulder bag

There's a great little Veteran's Memorial Park adjacent to our local library. We finally went and checked it out a few days ago after we returned some books. It was so, so hot, but at least we got some fun photos.

Guess what? I'm on vacation!! I had the opportunity to go up north for a few days to visit family and it's so great. So I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. :-)

Have a great weekend!

Nanny Style: One

yellow top, skinny jeans, sandals
long owl necklace, bright colors

Kohl's Top, $5
JCPenney Skinny Ankle Jeans, $25
Self-made Necklace
Old Navy Sandals
Nails: nailtini in "Mini Grenadine"

I had this post all put together and ready to go up over the weekend. And then, just minutes after my last post went live we got an email from our realtor that our offer had been accepted. And I have been a spastic, overly excited, stressed out monster ever since. So I'm just gonna apologize in advance for the very real possibility that that blog will not get a ton of attention over the next 4-6 weeks. My brain is buzzing with paint colors, and how soon should we start packing, and we need a trailer to haul our couch, and I really hope this doesn't mess up our already very tight budget, and oh my goodness I think the neighbors must know we're moving cause they are extra crazy this week, and holy cow I need a drink.

Happy Monday friends.

Weekend Wear: The Perfect Dress

blue and grey striped caftan, belted
blue and grey striped caftan, belted

Handmade Caftan by Me (using this tutorial)
Walmart Necklace, $3 (similar)
Belt c/o Daily Charms
Old Navy Sandals, $5 after gift card (same sandal, different colors)

Oh this dress. It is perfect and I want to wear it every single day. I've been wanting to make myself a maxi for a while, but I waited to buy fabric until the Memorial Day sale at Joann Fabrics and boy did I score. This dress probably cost me $10 to make. And it was SO EASY. Seriously, if you can sew a straight line, you can make this dress. Go make one. Right now.

Anyway, enough about this dress...how was your weekend? We spent the better part of our Sunday avoiding our neighbor's loud music and found ourselves at this little park with some ice cream. Really not too bad of a way to spend the day if you ask me.

Simplicity

Francesca's Dress, $16 (similar)
Belt c/o Daily Charms
Old Navy Sandals, $6 after $15 gift card (same sandal, different colors)
Francesca's Earrings, $10 (similar)

Guess what? I finally got around to putting a lining in the top of this dress. Now I can wear it without having to worry about wearing another layer either under or over it to cover my undergarments. Hooray! I decided to style my new and improved dress very simply for a trip to the library. There are something like 10 or 12 branches of our district library here...all of which we now have access to with our fancy new library cards. I'm super excited to be able to do more reading this summer..for free!! A big thing that prevents me from trying out new books is the cost. Although having a kindle does make things cheaper, costs still add up fast. And since we are cheap, cheap, cheap, it makes me really happy to be able to save money this way.

Hope your week has been wonderful so far!
