Sweet Style {2.4.15}

Thrifted Beanie; Kohl's Scarf; Swapped Sweater; Gap Factory Jeans; Modcloth Boots

So we finally got some real snow around here. I can't really complain, it's been a pretty mild winter so far with only one other major storm (and that was back in November). This latest one managed to dump a foot of snow on us in 24 hours, which was pretty impressive.

I wore this for a grocery run with my sister. It was warm, cozy, and allowed me to feel somewhat put together after 5 days of being sick. I'm a big advocate of letting your body heal itself and medicating minimally, but I finally broke down and bought some NyQuill today. My quality of sleep through this cold has been in the toilet, so tonight we change that.

Happy Wednesday.

Typical

neutrals neutrals neutrals
Thrifted Top, Sweater (similar) and Booties (exactly); JCPenney Jeans (exactly); Handmade Necklace via this Etsy shop

Here's an example of a typical nanny outfit. Although I love my statement necklaces, babies love them too, so I don't always wear them to work in order to avoid breakage or excessive drool. I have a handful of dainty necklaces that I wear almost everyday that are just enough to polish off an outfit but don't attract the little hands quite as much. I got this one as part of a set as a gift for Jeremy for Valentine's day this year. It's definitely one of my new favorites.

Northerner

Handmade Cowl (similar); Annie Jean Apparel via Sassy Steals; F21 Top; Gap Factory Jeans (similar); Modcloth Boots (similar)

This necklace is my new favorite. I love dressing like the northerner I am. There are other ways to channel the great outdoors besides camo. I snatched it up on Sassy Steals a few weeks ago..have you heard of it? It`s an awesome flash deal site for jewelry, clothes, kids, and home stuff. It`s awesome and I think they have a better selection and prices than other, similar sites. (Also, not a sponsored post, I`m just a really happy customer.) I have a couple other things on the way from them and can`t wait!

How`s your weekend going? I spent my Saturday organizing the house. It looks so much better now, you guys. We`ve been here 3 months and half the house was still a pig sty. I also took a break to have lunch with my sister. Always great to have some girl time.

Nanny Style: Red

Thrifted Sweater (similar); Old Navy Scarf (similar); Gap Jeans via thredUP; Charlotte Russe Boots (similar)

I have been wanting a pair of red boots for years. I bought these forever ago and ended up returning them because they didn't fit quite right. I tried to order a pair from Hautelook recently and was sent a pair of shoes that were definitely not red boots. I finally stumbled upon these last weekend, marked down to just $9. Good things come to those who wait, I suppose.

Nanny Style: Stolen

brown oversized sweater, jeggings, boots brown oversized sweater, jeggings, boots
Old Navy Sweater; Fade to Blue Jeggings; Connie Boots

I stole this sweater from my husband and I am pretty sure he is never getting it back. It is way too cozy and just the right length to look great with jeggings.

Today is my last day of work until after the new year and I could not be more excited. I need a break so badly you guys.

Happy Friday.

Catching the Spirit

Thrifted Sweater; Fade to Blue Jeggings; Swapped Boots; Old Navy Scarf

So...I may have worn this outfit twice this week. A loose sweater over leggings has been what I'm craving lately.

I don't know about you, but I am fully immersed in the Christmas spirit lately. Music, minty drinks, trees, snow. I love it all. I learned yesterday that although Tim Horton's (my much preferred Starbucks alternative) doesn't serve any specialty holiday drinks, you can ask for a flavor shot of peppermint in any drink. And it is delicious. I had a peppermint cafe mocha yesterday and holy cow. Christmas in a cup.

F21 Sweater via Stacia; Thrifted Cords; Old Navy Scarf; Thrifted Booties; Gifted Necklace

Guys...I miss dressing up. It hasn't really been a priority since the move - we've just been so busy. I need to unearth the rest of my clothes and get back on the wagon. It's good for my mental health.

This was one of the last 30 for 30 outfits I put together. There's something so chic about brown and black together. It's definitely been a favorite the last few months.

Walking on Sunshine

polka dots and pink, jeans, flats
Thrifted Sweater and Polka Dot Top; JCPenney Jeans; Kohl's Flats

Number 7! This week I learned that these pants really need to be taken in just a pinch. They are super comfy, but get a little baggy when paired with boots. Not cool.

So what have you guys been up to this week? I have been packing and getting really excited for the move! I was seriously walking on air today thinking about it. So excited!

JC Penney Jacket, $15 (similar)

I came thisclose to returning this jacket.  I left the tags on for weeks, unable to find any way to style it that I really liked.  It wasn't until I paired it with this sweater last week that it felt right.  I think it may have a place in my closet yet.

I've spent the last few days cooking and reading.  It's been quite enjoyable and I'm feeling rather accomplished at the moment. :-)  Have you ever made your own tortillas?  It's so easy and so yummy!  I used this recipe and they turned out great.  My little kitchen victory of the week, right there.

Happy Sunday!

P.S. I wrote a guest post for The You Are Project yesterday! Be sure to check it out!

Forever 21 Polka Dot Sweater, free with gift card (similar at Target)
Thrifted Chambray, $3 (similar at Old Navy)
JC Penney Skinny Ankle Jeans, $11 on clearance (same in mint, check your local JCP for this color!)
Thrifted Sneaker Wedges, $5 (similar)
Target Watch, $10

I thought long and hard about what color my 2nd pair of colored jeans would be, and finally decided on this nice shade of pink.  Not too bright, fits well with my wardrobe, but still makes a statement.  I really love the color and the fact that I got them so cheap, but they feel so short!  I know they hit my ankles just like they're designed to, but when you're only 5 feet tall, bottoms are rarely as long as they're supposed to be.  Even the petite/short jeans sometimes hit the floor and most everything has to be hemmed.  I feel like I get a taste of what it must be like to be a tall or average sized person whenever I wear these pants. :-)

I don't usually go for the tunic and leggings look, but it's Friday, and I wanted something cozy and easy for the snow storm and to wind down from the week.  We've had a pretty good week around here: I worked, Jeremy had a great interview (so great, we are fully expecting an offer (fingers crossed)), and I got our taxes done yesterday.  I also started working out again this week.  I forgot how good it felt to start a day with exercise. :-)

Have a great weekend!

How to Wear a Polka Dotted Sweater

Who knew this polka dotted sweater would become such a wardrobe staple?  I got this totally free with a gift card from Forever 21 last fall and have worn it so many times.  Here's a few of my favorites.

That's a Wrap

And here we are. The last 4 outfits of my challenge! I got a little busy/sick/lazy towards the end, but they all got documented!

Thrifted Chambray, $3, Thrifted Gap Cardigan, $2, Old Navy Jeans, $30

Ella Moss Dress via Plato's Closet, $16; Thrifted Jacket, $4; Fleece Tights via Burlington Coat Factory, $7; Connie Boots via Famous Footwear, $40

Thrifted Denim Pencil Skirt, $4

Old Navy Sweater; Thrifted Button up, $3; Thrifted Skirt, $0.99

I'm happy to say that is challenge was a complete success. I must say, it was way easier to not include shoes in my 15 items.  I definitely defaulted to the same 3 pairs the whole time, but somehow having the freedom to pick from all my shoes made it easier.  I also finished feeling like I have a much more remixable closet than I used to. I felt like I probably could have made another 10 or so outfits out of my 15 items.  I was also REALLY happy with the outfits.  In the past, I've felt kind of meh about about half of what I end up putting together. Not the case this round.

All that to say, it went well, I really enjoyed it, and will definitely be doing it again! In the meantime, I'm going to go and hug the rest of my closet...

This is my "it's raining and I'm ready to go inside" face.

Thrifted Vintage Skirt, $4 (similar)
Gap Scarf, $9 (similar)
JCP Boots, $50 (similar)

Somehow this skirt and my green dress in the last post got forgotten about until now.  Sad. They're both great pieces to remix. :-)

Not much to say today...due to the schedule of the family I work for, I get a whopping two week break surrounding the holidays!  I'm so excited.  My vacation starts 4pm Friday and it can't come soon enough.

Any exciting holiday plans for you all?

Home Thoughts

Thrifted Polka Dot Top, $2 (similar)
Thrifted Skirt, $3 (similar)
Swapped Boots, $8 (similar)

I feel like this outfit is kind of a mis-mash of stuff.  Brown, black, denim, polka dots, purple tights.... I think it works though. Right? (please)

I haven't been doing much for clothes shopping lately.  Instead, my thoughts and budget have been more directed towards decorating our apartment.  I've been able to get some great deals lately on decor, and I'm really excited to finally put it all together!  It's all going to have a very vintage/retro vibe when it's all done, and I can't wait. :-) I'm hoping to share it here, hopefully sometime next month.

Anniversary Trip: Marquette, MI

Forever 21 Sweater, free with gift card (similar)

So I was kind of a bad blogger over Thanksgiving and hardly took any photos.  I have no delicious meal photos to share, no pretty table.  I do, however, have a few pictures to share of our mini anniversary trip.  Jeremy and I marked 2 years of marriage yesterday, but we celebrated over the holiday weekend.  Since we went to my parent's for Thanksgiving, we decided to head even further north for the night to Marquette and The Landmark Inn.  We spent our wedding night there, so it was great to get back and enjoy another night in this beautiful hotel!

We went with a more simple room (see: cheaper) than on our wedding night, but it was still amazing.  We stayed in "the lilac room", which was actually right across the hall from "the governor's room", where we stayed on our wedding night!

Photobucket

The outfit above is what I wore to dinner at The Vierling.  Located just a few blocks from The Landmark, The Vierling is a casual restaurant serving delicious food and their very own beer.  Jeremy and I both had some Lake Superior whitefish and it was ah-mazing.

The next morning we did some shopping and had breakfast at Third Street Bagel.  They have the best bagels and coffee.

Although not well documented, our Thanksgiving weekend was wonderful.  I ate way too much, had a great time with my family and husband, and relaxed for the first time in a long time.  I just wish it had been longer.

Transition

I don't really have any super deep thoughts to offer you on this Monday.  It's my last week of work (already!) with the family I've been nannying for and I will miss them!  I'm so glad my first nannying experience was a good one and just wish they didn't have to move away.  It's also the second week in a month that I've been a bachelorette for the week c/o my husband's work.  So it's a week of transition, of thinking, and of eating nasty food.

I am praying for all of you out on the east coast! We are supposed to get some high winds and rain (and possible power outages) from Sandy all the way out here in Michigan so I can only imagine how bad it is on the coast. Stay safe!
