Stitch Fix #3

Note: I actually received this Fix in January, but never pushed publish on the post. I'm getting another this week so I wanted to get this out there before it arrived! Also, not an April fools joke. I actually received these terrible clothes.

I was so eager and excited to get another Stitch Fix this month. I haven't gotten one since last summer, so it was long overdue.

I was surprised to see this show up at my door this week. SF usually sends a shipping email, and I didn't get one this time. Probably should have told me something about how this fix was going to go...

These jeans were soft and comfortable, but not my style at all! The distressing and the zippers were so unflattering. Pass...

I love the pattern of this, even though it's not something I'd usually wear. Unfortunately it had no stretch to it, so it wouldn't go past my hips, and it was also sheer. I hate, hate, hate sheer tops, and I know I've asked SF not to send them before. Pass.

There are so many things wrong with this top. It's sheer, it's sleeveless, the color is terrible, and the neckline could not be more unflattering. It's also way too long and doesn't go over my hips. Yuck. So much yuck.

I liked these colors, but again...SHEER. Also, insanely unflattering.

FINALLY. Something not sheer. This is the only thing I ended up keeping out of the fix. It's soft and cozy, and also fits well.

After this fix, I'm starting to think Stitch Fix is losing their touch. I mean, it's not like this is my first fix, and this one was waaaaaaay off. I was so disappointed.

How about you? Have you gotten anything good from Stitch Fix lately?

Good Busy

I was scrolling through old posts and thought to myself.. "wow, I haven't worn that top in a while!"  So I did. :-)  It'll be a great fall piece and it's nice and toasty warm without being too warm.

I had something written out here about how my job search is going, but I'm happy to be able to delete it and tell you that I accepted a job yesterday!  It's just for the next six weeks, but I'm super excited about it.  I had 4 interviews just this week, so I'm sure I'll have no problem finding more caregiver work when this job ends.  I think I just had to get past the hump of all-the-college-students-just-came-to-town-and-are-looking-for-work-too before I could find work myself.  All I can say is, it's been a long week, and I'm glad things are gonna start settling down now!

Hello Fall

Photobucket
Thrifted Dress similar ($4); Thrifted Jacket ($7); Kohl's Pashmina ($12 on sale and with coupon); Wanted Boots via The Shoe Dept. similar ($30)

Just a simple, bright outfit for the second day of fall. :-)  I wore this to church, then out to lunch with my husband.  I totally could have worn some tights with this..it was that cold!

Other than that I have nothing to report.  I'm still crazy busy, my husband is still working weird hours, and I'm still loving fall. :-)  What's new with you?

Shades of Purple

Photobucket
Thrifted Top ($2); Thrifted Cardi; JCP Jeans ($20); Swapped Boots; Self Made Necklace

I am so glad I put on this comfy outfit this morning.  I started out the day planning to get groceries and apply for jobs.  Pretty low key, not too exciting.  When I got home from getting groceries I had a response to a job posting that required my attention.  I finished that and had a quick lunch, during which I got a call from another job.  After an awesome phone interview I got another call from my eye doctor to say my frames were in.  I ran up there, came home to a few more urgent emails.  Oh, and I'm supposed to have another phone interview before the day is done, I'm meeting a family tomorrow, and I have an in person interview on Wednesday.

And don't even get me started on my husband's schedule.

When it rains, it pours I guess (in the best way possible). :-)

new frames!

Shop My Closet!

Just a quick interruption to your weekend! I've seen so many other bloggers sell their clothes through their blog, so I'm giving it a try rather than doing my usual donate or list on eBay.  If nothing has sold a month from now, they'll hit eBay, but I thought I'd give you all a chance at them first. :-)

Fall Uniform

Photobucket
Photobucket
Thrifted Cardigan ($3); JCP Dress ($20); Walmart Flats ($10)

I spent a lot of time last fall trying to thrift colored cardigans, and only ever found this one from Target.  I was really excited to find this burgundy one and a pink one at the thrift store over the weekend.

I wore this when my husband and I went out to Coldstone.  I signed up for their email list and got a buy one, get one free coupon, which we thoroughly enjoyed last night.  I'm always amazed at how good their ice cream is, no matter how many times we go there.  Yesterday I had the oreo cream filling flavor for the first time, mixed with strawberries it and it was ah-mazing.

City Life

Vintage Ralph Lauren Blazer, Thrifted ($0.99); Kohl's Tee ($10); Thrifted Jeans ($6); Booties via 6pm.com ($15)

This is one of those outfits that I totally loved but felt like it just didn't photograph well.  Sad, because I felt pretty darn awesome in it.  I got both the blazer and booties over the summer and have been waiting for it to cool down to wear them.  I was still a bit too toasty in this, but like I said...I felt awesome. :-)

I wore this yesterday to go to church, out to lunch, and a little thrifting with my husband.  I also went to the craft store where a woman came up to me and very quickly said "Is there a place to take returns I really like your jacket are you in line??"  She then proceeded to stand all of 2 inches behind me in line while we waited.  When another checkout opened up a few minutes later she then practically pushed me to it while telling me that's where I needed to be checking out.  Having filled my creepiness quota for the day, I quickly paid for my things and left the clerk to deal with her return.

Ah, city life.

On Quality

My husband and I have been talking a lot about the quality of our clothes over the last few months and we both have come to the conclusion that most clothes that are in stores today are crap.  Things we buy at the "cheap" stores fall apart after only a season or two.  So, we've decided that as things in our respective wardrobes need replacing, we'll be doing our best to replace them with a more high quality item.  That may mean spending more, but if it'll last us years instead of months, it's worth it.  I think this will not only make our wardrobes go farther, but it will make us think more about our purchases.
And so, I'm proud to introduce the first of those purchases.  A pair of Minnetonka Moccasins purchased at DSW on clearance for $34.

I've had my eye out for a deal on moccs recently since I knew they'd be coming on sale at the end of the summer.  I'm super excited to have found these great quality Minnetonka ones for a great price.  They will  be a great replacement for my brown flats, which now have holes in them.
I'm also super excited that we went to two different malls yesterday and these are all I bought. :-)  Bring on the shopping reform!

Date Night

Photobucket

Thrifted Jacket ($7); Kohl's Tee ($10); Homemade Skirt; Walmart Wedges ($10)

Sorry about the fuzzy/grainy photos, but my light was fading and I wanted pictures. :-)  I wore this on Saturday night for a mini date night with my husband.  We wanted to get out on the cheap, so we went to Steak 'n Shake for the first time.  Yum-o.  We both got burgers and split a shake and it was amazing.  We will definitely be going back.  After that we came home and watched The Artist.  Fun, relaxing night on the cheap. Just how we like it. :-)

Also, in a moment of frustration/frugalness, I decided to cut my own hair.  I can't get the cute little angle that I had before, but I managed to get it straight all the way around and re-layer it.  It's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it. :-)

Thrifting for All

Photobucket
Photobucket
Target Dress, $12 cheapo similar
Target Cardigan, $9 same perfect color
Payless Flats, $5
Thrifted Belt, $2 almost exactly

It may still be hovering in the 80s outside, but I am so ready for fall.  So I dressed for the weather I want, not the weather I have yesterday while grocery shopping and thrifting some new work clothes for my husband.  I haven't mentioned it here yet, but he's actually working as a portrait photographer. :-)  The unofficial uniform for his new job is khakis and polo shirts.  Before he started he had about one of each of those, but we managed to find him another pair of pants (which are really difficult to thrift cause he's a small guy!) and 5 shirts for less than $20! Oh the power of thrifting...

What did I get at the thrift store, you may ask? A bread machine! I've been wanting one for quite some time, just waiting until we got ourselves re-settled into a new place.  I made some bread in it last night and oh...it was divine.  I've never really minded making bread myself...the entire process is fun and rather satisfying.  But I'm still really excited to have this machine. :-)

Hope you all have a great weekend! I'm looking forward to date night with my husband tomorrow and church on Sunday!  What do you have on tap?

Can I just say how great it is to have a closet again?  Some of my clothes are still in boxes and suitcases since we don't have our dresser yet, but I can finally find everything again.

I thrifted this skirt way back in March right after we moved and promptly stuck it in a box. I figured we'd be moved in a month and I'd be able to find it again soon.  That was 6 months ago and this is the skirt's first wearing.  Oh well...it should be a nice fall piece, right?

Good and Bad

Photobucket
Photobucket
Thrifted Top ($3); Thrifted Shorts; Shopko Sandals

Well, hi!

It hasn't even been a week since I last blogged but so much has happened!  Here's the short of it:

The Good:
-We found an apartment!  It's a lovely, quiet little place in Lansing that we're super happy with.  We were able to get moved in last Friday and it's been great. :-)
-We now have internet in said apartment!
-We got a new car! More on that in a moment...

The Bad:
-Our car died. :-( Jeremy and I left my parent's home last week with both our cars loaded with stuff.  Halfway through the trip we switched cars when Jeremy got a call to go into work.  Not 5 minutes after going our separate ways, he calls me with he bad news.  We were hoping it would be a simple fix, but it seems one of the cylinders blew and the engine needs major work (see: it's going to cost a lot of money).  In any case, it is no more.  We were able to bum a ride from my sister and BIL back up to my parents last Friday to buy a car from them, so we're back in business.  We still need to get the non-functional car towed down to our place and figure out what to do with it.  But for now, all is well.

Whew.  It has been a crazy few weeks and we are both exhausted.  Happy, but exhausted. :-)

Jeans + Tee

Kohl's Tee ($10); Thrifted Jeans ($5); Walmart Scarf ($3); Gap Flats ($15)

I wore this yesterday for some apartment hunting.  We have been so insanely busy this week and I've worn some version of this just about every day.  I've either been driving, packing, or on the phone pretty much constantly for the last week.  We are thisclose to finally being settled though, so I know it's worth it. :-)

Fall Favorites

Now that August is drawing to a close, I'm starting to think about lovely fall outfits.  I downloaded Stylebook last week and have been having a blast creating collage-style outfit of my own clothes.  Here's a few I'm looking forward to wearing in the coming months.

Excuse my poor photo editing skills.  My clothes don't really have pixelated holes in them...

I thrifted this sweater back in July and can't wait to wear it!

This one's a bit summery, but I'm hoping I can squeeze it in...

Thrifted Levi's Jacket ($10); rue21 Dress ($9); F21 Leggings ($5); Wanted Boots ($20); Old Navy Bag; Francesca's Earrings ($16)

Two years ago yesterday my husband and I came to this very place and he proposed.  It's a beautiful little park on Lake Michigan with a cute pier where we sat at sunset as he pulled out the ring. :-)  We marked the occasion by reliving our day.  We ate at McDonald's (cause we're classy like that) and walked hand in hand around the park, reminiscing about all that's happened over the last two years.  We've lived in two states, he's had two jobs, and very soon we'll live in our second apartment.  Hopefully that's not a trend and we'll stay in our next situation a bit longer!

Happy Monday. :-)  Hope you all had a great weekend as well!

P.S. I'm guest posting at Sew Sew today on how to spot vintage at your local thrift store! Check it out!
