Kohl's Tee ($10, now just $5.99!); Thrifted Skirt similar ($0.99); Walmart Scarf ($3); Payless Flats similar ($5)

Do you know how difficult it is to find a knee-length neutral cotton skirt? Really difficult.  I scoured the thrift stores for months before finding this one.  Most black and grey skirts are made of polyester or some other odd material that just isn't comfortable, or they're either really long or really short.  I finally found this one and a black one at the thrift store last week.  It's a lovely cotton blend with an elastic waist.  Skirt perfection.

EBEW: Color Blocked

It's been a while since I've participated in EBEW, but I'll gladly layer on as many colors as I can squeeze into an outfit. :-)

My husband and I are in the Lansing area house sitting for my sister and her husband this week.  Let me tell you, it is SO MUCH HOTTER here than it is in the northern part of the state.  This probably would have looked better tucked in, but there was no way I was going to force more clothing to touch my skin than absolutely necessary.  Nice loose, comfy outfits are the way to go when it's nearing 100 degrees...

The heat is also forcing me to do something with my hair besides just blow dry it.  Enter the twisted bangs.  Keeps them out of my face and adds some interest to my pony tail.

Today I'm dressed for both Bloggers Do It Better (wear red) and Everybody Everywear (wear red and pink)!

I'm generally not a fan of this color combo, but I think the darker red makes it work for me.

EBEW: Black & White

Dress: Thrifted ($6)
Cardigan: Mossimo Supply Co. via Target (clearance, $5)
Scarf: Burlington ($7)
Boots: Connie via Famous Footwear (clearance, $40)

Woohoo! I'm excited to be participating in this month's Everybody, Everywear challenge.  I had to sit out last month because my closet is significantly lacking sparkles and sequins.  However, black and white, I can do!

EBEW: Colored Tights {Two}

Top: Thrifted
Dress as Skirt: JC Penney
Boots: Old Navy
Scarf: Burlington Coat Factory
Tights: Target

It's kind of hard to tell, but I really am wearing purple tights.

I think this is my first real venture into the world of colored tights.  I bought these and an olive green pair at Target a few weeks ago, but this is their first wearing.  I'm sure they'll get more wear as time goes on. :)

EBEW: DIY and a New Lens

Top: Old Navy
Skirt: Thrifted
Shoes: So (Kohl's)
Earrings: Kohl's
Necklace: DIY

Photos look different today?  That's because they were shot with my brand spankin' new 85mm prime lens.  I am in love with this thing.  Just look at how sharp they are!  And the lighting...ah! Love.  I bought this to get a start on some portrait photography for my photography business, and I can see why this lens is the top pick for such photos.  Just lovely.

I made this necklace and a handful of others recently.  I got all the materials at Micheal's craft store, probably for under $5.  The best part is that I just got a really long 3 foot chain and broke it where I wanted it, making this necklace a custom length.  Due to a rather short torso, the ones they always sell in the store are realllly long.  This one, is perfect.

Also, hello belly!  These photos are straight out of camera (no editing!).  Maybe the fact that this new lens is rather unforgiving will be a good motivator.

EBEW: Pattern Mixing

Everybody, Everywear | Pattern Mixing

Cardigan: Target
Dress: TJ Maxx
Shoes: Kushy Foot
Belt: Thrifted

I'm really not a mixed patterns person.  I love solids.  So this was difficult for me.  I'm happy with the result though.
Cool weather means the return of my beloved cardigans and layering! :D  The weatherman is called for a high of 73 today, which is good enough for me.  I woke up to a lovely 62 degrees, and was SO happy.  I slept better last night than I have in weeks with a nice cool temp all night long.

This post is brought to you by Every Body, Every Wear.  The 2nd Tuesday of each month they host a fashion challenge.  Check out the blog and join in the fun!
