Target Cardigan (on sale under $12!); Fair Trade Necklace (similar); Thrifted Lace Top (similar) and Pants (similar); Payless Wedges (similar at Target)

I`ve been a skinny pants devotee for the past few years, so I`ve totally forgotten how flattering a good wide legged pant can be with a pair of heels. My legs felt so long in these!

In completely unrelated news...are you guys as excited for the Olympics as I am? Seriously cannot wait. I`m not much of a sports fan, but something about the Olympics has always made me happy. My favorites are hockey, curling, speed skating and bobsledding.

Francesca's Dress as a Top, $16 (similar)

This outfit has been on my "to wear" list for a few weeks now. I finally wore it to church this morning to stay cool in this 90 degree heat.

I'm in the middle of a few weeks off work. It was a little unexpected, but it's rather nice. I've been doing some crocheting, lots of reading, and a little TV watching.

What have you been up to lately?

Thrifted Dress (similar)
Thrifted Jacket, $13 (similar)
Payless Wedges, $5 (similar)

I thrifted this dress a little over a year ago, and I think I've only worn it a handful of times since then. Which is a shame, cause it's such a great little black dress. It's a great shape, plus it's sleeveless, making it a perfect blank canvas for all sorts of extras. I'll have to make a point of wearing it more over the summer.

Speaking of LBDs, have you ever heard of the One Dress Protest? I stumbled across this blog a few weeks ago, and it's a really interesting read! Kristy wore the same black dress every day for a year in protest of how our society views clothing and the consumer culture. She finished the project at the end of 2011, but be sure to click through and check out her archives.

P.S. Here's #2. Jeremy went into work early, plus I slept in the day I wore this, so a mirror photo is all I got.

Truth be told, I took off the RL blazer before going to work.  Can't say I was real eager to get spit-up on this beauty...

I got these pants a few weeks ago, brought them home and made them skinny, and have been in love with them ever since.  I think I've worn them at least twice a week since then.  I've been wearing them with a bright top but I ran across this image which inspired me to incorporate them into a more neutral look:

I love her flats, but I thought my boots deserved one more outing before they're packed away for the summer.  It's heating up around here at last and I couldn't be happier.

Enjoy your Easter weekend!

I'm not usually real big on the color yellow, but when I found this cute top on the clearance rack last weekend, I decided I had some room in my closet for it.  And let me tell you, after weeks of grey winter days, a yellow top is the perfect pick-me-up.  It definitely helped put me in an amazing mood the day I wore it.

Does color ever boost your mood?

JC Penney Skinny Ankle Jeans, $11 on clearance (same in mint, check your local JCP for this color!)
Thrifted Sneaker Wedges, $5 (similar)
Target Watch, $10

I thought long and hard about what color my 2nd pair of colored jeans would be, and finally decided on this nice shade of pink.  Not too bright, fits well with my wardrobe, but still makes a statement.  I really love the color and the fact that I got them so cheap, but they feel so short!  I know they hit my ankles just like they're designed to, but when you're only 5 feet tall, bottoms are rarely as long as they're supposed to be.  Even the petite/short jeans sometimes hit the floor and most everything has to be hemmed.  I feel like I get a taste of what it must be like to be a tall or average sized person whenever I wear these pants. :-)

Styling the Sneaker Wedge

Thrifted Heart Top (Old Navy), $3.50 (similar)
Thrifted Sneaker Wedges, $5 (similar)

So I thrifted both this top and sneaker wedges on the same thrifting trip, and knew right away they'd look great together.  I also didn't think I'd like sneaker wedges as much as I do.  I know they're been a huge trend over the last year or so (one I was kind of trying to avoid), so for $5 I figured the trend was worth a try.  And now I really like them. The color and style fit super well into my wardrobe, and I kind of want to wear them everyday.

What do you think of the sneaker wedge?

P.S. I have been getting a PILE of spam comments lately, so I turned my word verification back on for the time being.  So sorry that all you non-robots have to put up with that, but I promise I'll turn it off again soon!

Repeat

Photobucket

I wore this outfit the Sunday after Christmas and recreated it last night for date night.  Jeremy and I went out to eat at Steak 'n Shake, and it was the first time we'd be out to eat in about 3 weeks.  I have never enjoyed a burger that I didn't have to cook more in my life.  We usually enjoy eating out at least a couple of times a week, so now when we do it's a huge treat.

So...I got a job!!  A short term, full time job, but it's a job! :-)  I got a call out of the blue last night from someone I interviewed with back in September asking if I'd be available to work the next few weeks until the dad is able to quit work.  Umm...yes!?  It's gonna be long days, but for now I'm just thankful for some work.  As hard as this season of life has been, I'm so glad to be reminded that God is working for our good!  We will get through, J will either find another job or go back to work at the end of February and we. will. make. it.  Yay.

Happy Wednesday. :-)

Contrast

Target Dress, $9 on clearance (super similar)
Fleece Tights via TJ Maxx, $7
Connie Boots via Famous Footwear, $40 (similar)

I must have forgotten how to pose for outfit photos over the holidays, cause these are bordering on awkward.  They're not the only ones I've taken recently to turn out like that either... Oh well. Despite the awkwardness, I'm kind if in love with these photos.  The stark contrast of the black against white is pretty fun.

Annnd this dress.  I bought this way back around Thanksgiving, stuck it in my closet, and promptly forgot about it.  It's an XL, so I was probably thinking it would need some alteration before it was worn.  When I tried it on again last weekend I decided I liked the way it fit as is.  So I happily wore it to church. :-)  I may still take it in at the top, but the skirt is perrrrrfect.

Seeking Stability

Photobucket
Photobucket

Thrifted Vintage Dress, $2
Connie Boots via Famous Footwear, $40

Even though this dress is too big, I had to wear it at least once.  I was so excited to find it last week at the thrift store.  It'll be hitting the shop sometime soon and I hope it will find a great new home!

So I was rather unceremoniously let go from my job this past week.  There was no warning, very little explanation, and I was pretty shocked.  Apparently it wasn't anything I did, but it was still rather unnerving, especially after just a month of working for them.  And the timing wasn't really great since my husband is still laid off (although, is there ever a good time to lose a job?).  Hopefully both of us will be able to find more work soon.  And keep it for a while.  It's been a weird season in life where we've both had one job after another, moved from place to place often, and I am so ready for some stability!

Anyway...hope you're all having a great weekend! :-)

Time for New Jeans

brown dress, leopard wedges
brown dress, leopard wedges
brown dress, leopard wedges
Thrifted Dress ($4); Payless Wedges ($10); Gifted Necklace

I'm never quite sure what to do with this dress besides thrown a cardigan over it.  It's still too hot for cardigans, so I'm forced to find other ways to style it.  I'm liking the leopard wedges though...

Have you run across this on Pinterest yet?  I did yesterday and it was mind blowing.  I've been wearing Old Navy jeans for the last year and can definitely attest to the fact that they stretch out.  What looks great at the beginning of the day is pretty loose by the time I take outfit photos.  I'm in no position to buy new jeans anywhere but the the thrift store right now, but I think I might actually do some trying on very soon to see if I can find some better fitting jeans.  I don't think I've ever tried on jeans that cost more than $30 brand new so it seems like a worthy experiment.

What do you think? What are your go-to jean brands?

Inspired by Wendy's Lookbook

Kohl's Tee ($10, right now they're only $6.99!); Icing Necklace ($2); Old Navy Jeans ($30); Payless Wedges ($10, similar)

I saw Wendy wear this outfit a while ago and knew I could copy it.  I not so patiently waited for the weather to cool down enough for jeans and happily donned this yesterday.  I really need to hem this shirt.  Right now it's bunching around my tummy and hips creating a lot of bulk.  Otherwise this outfit was just right for something quick to throw on when my husband woke me up yesterday morning before his interview asking if I'd like to go thrifting and get coffee.  Umm...yes?!

Honestly...

Photobucket
Photobucket

JC Penney Dress ($20); Vintage Bangle via a flea market ($5); Wedges via eBay ($20)

I have a confession. My life isn't all rosy and perfect.

The last few days have been really rough.  My sister and her husband extended an invitation to come and stay with them until my husband can find job.  Although very gracious of them, this invitation mainly came because of my husband's lack of motivation over the last 4 months and failure to find a job while living with my parents.  In addition to a place to stay he was also offered accountability while job searching.

I love my husband dearly.  He will be the first to admit that he has a lot of issues to work through, and he is working on them.  He knows that he hasn't done his best up to this point in terms of providing for us.  By accepting this offer, however, he has made a huge step in the right direction. He is working really hard and I am confident that he will be employed and we will be back on our feet in a matter of weeks.

These are the times where it's really hard to see what God is doing in our lives.  I'll probably never know why He saw fit to keep my husband unemployed for 4+ months, why we've had to have so many arguments, etc.  But we're still here, and we're going to make it.  And really, that's all I need to know.

Cool Weather

Target Cardi ($9); Old Navy Tank ($7); Old Navy Jeans ($25); Payless Wedges similar ($8)

We experienced a small miracle two days ago.  The weather was...cool.  It didn't get much above 70 degrees all day long.  I had a hard time deciding what cardigan to wear I was so excited.  Hopefully we get a few more of these days so I can give the rest of them some love.  They're terribly lonely.

Also, I got my hair cut this week. I usually take this photo to every new stylist I go to and I get a slightly different cut each time.  Can't say I mind.  It's fun to switch it up a bit. :-)

Blue + White

rue21 ($11); Vintage Necklace via Grandma; Wedges via eBay ($20)

Things I love about this dress:
1. The color.
2. The polka dots
3. The detailing
4. The scalloped edges
5. The fact that it covers my undergarments
6. It's super lightweight

I really loved this outfit.  It kept me cool, comfortable, and feeling classy all day.  Add that to the fact that I let my hair air dry and didn't put on a speck of makeup made for a great day. :-)

Breezy

Thrifted Button-up ($2); Old Navy Tank ($7); Old Navy Jeans ($30); Thrifted Belt ($3); Walmart Wedges ($10)
This week I'm participating in a whole week of Open to Interpretation hosted by Kayla, Erica, and Grace!  Today's inspiration image was picked by Erica (here).

This button-up was another one of those thing I bought "for the shop" that I ended up keeping.  I can't resist the subtle stripes, 3/4 sleeves and breezy quality to it!  It was perfect over this tank with jeans.
