Capsule Wardrobe: Day 7

Levi's Jacket (here); Thrifted Vintage Tee (similar); Handmade Skirt (similar); Steve Madden Flats (similar)

Oooo, legit outfit photos! So here's the story: over 2 years ago (really, probably more like 3...), my husband dropped our camera and the auto-focus on our short lens broke. After trying to fix it ourselves, and finally taking it in to get looked at, we discovered that it would cost as much to fix it as it would be to buy a brand new lens. And so, the lens sat. And sat. And sat, as we muddled through with our long zoom lens. Which takes great pictures, by the way, it's just much more difficult to work with.

Because of all this, I have had a hard time taking outfit photos of myself. If I can't get outside, it just doesn't happen, simply because we don't have a room large enough in our 1000 square foot house to make the long lens work.

Fast forward to two weeks ago when I finally broke down and ordered a new short lens for cheap from China. It came, I rejoiced, and am now back in business.

And now we have legit outfit photos again.

Sweet Style {4.15.15}

lace tee, denim jacket, polka dot skirt
Vintage Tee (similar); Levi's Jacket; Stitch Fix Skirt; Kohl's Flats (similar)

I gushed earlier this week about this skirt from Stitch Fix, and I happily debuted it at church this past Sunday. My only gripe is that it's so flowy, I just about had a Marilyn moment with my skirt a-flying.

I'm writing this post out during our TV night. That's Tuesday. We don't watch much TV, but on Tuesdays we settle in and watch Agents of Shield and Person of Interest. I'm not a huge fan of the latter, but J loves it, so we just make a night of it.

Do you have a TV night?

Nanny Style {4.10.15}

If you've seen me in real life over the last 6 months, you've probably seen this outfit. I wear it, or some version of it, at least a few times a month. The shoes, however, are new. I've been wanting to try a pair of TOMS ballet flats since they came out a few years ago, but $84 a pair is a tough pill to swallow. I found these on clearance and decided to give them a try. They're AMAZING. Ridiculously comfortable, and they look great. Definitely my new favorite shoe.

Veteran's Day

rose tunic, mustard scarf, maxi skirt
Gap Tunic (similar); Kohl's Scarf (similar); Old Navy Maxi Skirt (similar); Claire's Earrings (similar)

Happy Veteran's Day! J and I are celebrating by heading out to Red Robin for a free burger. Cause there's nothing that says "thank you" quite like free food.

Hope your week is fantastic so far.

Impulse Buy

striped tee, ripped jeans, brown flats
Vintage Top (similar from Old Navy - $3!)
Gap Jeans (here)
Thrifted Flats (similar)
Handmade Necklace via Antique Market (buy on Etsy)

I almost didn't buy these jeans. I went to Gap over Labor Day weekend specifically to buy a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. I grabbed those, and my sister pointed out that they had a few pairs of jeans on the clearance rack. These were sitting there, in my size, for just $14. I'm not usually one for ripped jeans, but for $14? They've turned out to be a great buy. In fact, I've worn them more times than the dark wash jeans I actually set out to get.

What are your favorite impulse buys?

Last of Summer

indigo shirt dress, anchor scarf, brown flats
Gap Shirtdress (similar); Scarf via Daily Charms (giveaway win); Thrifted Flats (similar)

Summer just keeps hanging on. The weekend is promising fall-like weather, but for now, it's warm. I can still drink tea and pumpkin spice lattes though, right?

Happy Thursday.

Husband Jeans

black tee, boyfriend jeans, leopard flats
Thrifted Everything (jeans here, similar flats)

How was your long weekend? I wore this easy outfit for a Saturday of Labor Day sale shopping with my sister. I scored a couple pairs of awesome jeans from Gap, something I've been wanting to do for months. I'm so glad I waited until they went on sale.

What are your thoughts on boyfriend jeans? I love these, but they completely lose their shape by the end of the day, as you can see here. I used to avoid them because they can be kind of shapeless, but their comfort can't be beat.

Summer Rundown

pink skirt, striped tee, denim jacket

Self-Made Skirt (similar)
Thrifted Everything Else (jacket here, similar shoes)

Oh hey there little blog. Nice to see you.

I haven't worn this skirt all summer because for some reason I thought it was too short. How wrong was I. Maybe too short to wear to an office, but perfect for a casual day of church and thrifting.

Here's a rundown of life lately:

1. I painted my kitchen yellow. It's bright and happy and I love it.
2. I joined Vinted. No, this is not sponsored, I'm just addicted.
3. My poor ankles have not been digging the humidity. See exhibit A: the above photo full of swelling.
4. Today I'm starting on a gluten-free experiment that will last 2 weeks. I've had a lot of vague symptoms over the last 6ish months and it's time to start seeing about feeling better.

How's your summer been?

LWD and VBS

little white dress, denim jacket, bow flats

Thrifted Dress and Belt (similar)
Thrifted Levi's Jacket (here)
Map Necklace via Antique Market (here)
Kohl's Flats (similar)

I wore this last week and completely forgot we took pictures! So here you go.

I had a busy week full of VBS. We had over 100 kids there and it was cah-razy. I came home exhausted everyday, but it was so fun. Kids are silly.

How was your week?

Old Junk

patterned top, scarf, polka dot jeans, flats

Thrifted Top (similar style)
Walmart Scarf (similar)
Gap Jeans (similar)
Payless Flats (similar)

I wore this to do some antiquing earlier this week. We didn't realize until recently that one of the towns a mere 20 minutes from us has some serious antiquing. Like...there's 9 shops there. NINE. It's insane and we spent a very happy afternoon perusing old junk, coffee in hand. And we will definitely be going back.

Happy Friday.

Short Legs, Don't Care

denim jacket, striped tunic, jeggings, red flats

Thrifted Levi's Jacket (here)
Tunic via thredUP (similar)
Target Jeggings (here)

This is one of those looks where you just throw the proportions to the wind and let comfort reign. I know this makes me look short. I don't care.

Happy weekend.

Kind of Like Call the Midwife

polka dot dress, boyfriend cardigan, flats mmmay day 4 polka dot dress, boyfriend cardigan, flats
Thrifted Cardigan (similar); Cents of Style Necklace; Thrifted and Refashioned Vintage  Dress (similar); Payless Flats (similar)

I didn't realize how much this outfit resembled one from Call the Midwife until I was editing photos. Have you guys ever seen that show? It's a BBC drama and it's one of my favorites. See:

I'm basically a British nurse from the 50s. I can live with that though.

Strength for the Weak

mustard scarf, grey sweatshirt, skinny jeans, studded flats mustard scarf, key necklace studded flats, cuffed skinny jeans mustard scarf, grey sweatshirt, skinny jeans, studded flats
Scarf c/o Daily Charms; Self-Made Necklace (similar); American Eagle Sweatshirt (similar); Gap Jeans via thredUP; Thrifted Flats (similar)

Editing photos on my husband's computer is weird. I had an insane graphics processor on mine, and photos always looked positively gorgeous. Not so much now. Ah well, moving on...

What have you guys been up to this week? I have been working through the new and updated version of Think Like a Pancreas. After spending the better part of last week dealing with a lot of diabetes related crapoola, I finally ponied up with $10 for the new kindle version of this amazing book. Let me tell you, it was well worth it. The first edition was great, but it's wonderful having all kinds of tips and tricks to use with my CGM. I haven't been able to read this fast enough.

BTW, I wore this for day 3 of me made May. :-)

Week in Review

grey sweatshirt, skinny jeans, leopard flats grey sweatshirt, skinny jeans, leopard flats
American Eagle Sweatshirt (similar); Gap Jeans via thredUP (here); Thrifted Aero Flats (similar); Cents of Style Necklace

This week:
  1. My parents came to visit. It was short, but sweet.
  2. We got cheap Easter candy on Monday. Yay. #reeseseggs
  3. I rediscovered this necklace. I haven`t been able to find it since we moved and this week while spring cleaning it finally turned up again. I was thisclose to ordering a new one. I love it that much.
  4. I`m getting my hair cut today and am super excited about it. I think I`m going a little shorter this time.
How was your week?

Nautical

Daily Charms Scarf; JCPenney Chambray Top; Gap Factory Jeans; Thrifted Flats

Happy Monday! I hope you had a lovely Easter weekend. We enjoyed a busy, but good Sunday with my sister's family and our church family. It was a beautiful 70 degrees and I soaked up every minute of it.

Isn't this the best scarf!? I won it in a giveaway and it's my new favorite. Who doesn't love a good nautical print?

Be The Way I Want To Go

mixed prints maxi dress, denim jacket, red flats mixed prints maxi dress, denim jacket, red flats mixed prints maxi dress, denim jacket, red flats
Stitch Fix Dress and Necklace; Levi's Jacket (here); Gap Flats (similar)

I wore this yesterday in glorious 70 degree weather. Spring is here and I couldn't be happier.

I know I'm not the only one, but spring has me in full on cleaning and organizing mode. When we moved last fall, a lot of things just sort of got put in one spot...and 6 months later, they're still there. We've been working on remedying that the last few days, as well as tackling projects around our fixer-upper that have been sitting all winter. Like taking down the fan that's in the corner of our living room. Yep. In the corner (we have no idea).

Happy Monday.

Brunch

striped shirt, denim jacket, black pants, red flats striped shirt, denim jacket, black pants, red flats striped shirt, denim jacket, black pants, red flats
Thrifted Striped Tee (cheapo option here); Levi's Jacket (here); Docker's Pants, refashioned into skinnies (similar); Gap Flats (love these)

I wore this to a brunch a few days ago. It was one of those weird social situations where I only knew the hostess and quickly discovered that the other guests were...ahh...not my cup of tea, shall we say? I stayed long enough to get some fritatta and coffee, then I skedaddled out of there to meet up with my husband. Hanging out with him is more fun. :-)

Saturday Tuesday

black tee, boyfriend cardigan, skinny jeans, bow flats black tee, boyfriend cardigan, skinny jeans, bow flats
Thrifted Target Tee (here) and Cardi (similar); Gap Jeans (here); Kohl's Flats (similar) and Earrings (similar)

Back at it today after suffering a terrible 24 hours without my computer. The case as been breaking apart by the hinge and every time I open it it gets a little worse. So Jeremy took it all apart and hopefully it's better now. Provided I stop dropping it, I suppose.

How has your week been? Jeremy's work schedule changed this week so he's now off Mondays and Tuesdays. Which feels so weird. I thought it was Saturday all day. We got to go out and take advantage of $5 movie Tuesday at our local theater and I got some goods at Sally Beauty to try my own gel manicure at home. Which I'm going to do as soon as I hit publish on this post.

Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday.

To Wait or Not

blue striped maxi dress, denim jacket blue striped maxi dress, denim jacket blue striped maxi dress, denim jacket
Self-Made Dress (similar); Thrifted Levi's Jacket (here); Stitch Fix Necklace; Thrifted Belt (similar); Payless Flats (similar)

I realized today that I posted about our desire to adopt a while back and never followed up. After a lot of thought and prayer, we decided to adopt through the foster system. We haven`t actually started fostering yet though. Jeremy has been taking classes full time in addition to working full time, so we haven`t had the time to take the state-required classes to become licensed foster parents. Really, this is good. Although we`re both eager to start our family, with Jeremy in school, I`d pretty much be single parenting.

So at this point, we are trying to make a decision. Option 1: take the classes over the summer and begin fostering in the fall. Jeremy will still be in school, so we`d have to be very selective about the kids we foster so I don`t get overwhelmed. Option 2: wait until Jeremy is done with school in December 2015. Neither of us want to wait, but we also want to be fully present for these kids.

Decisions, decisions. It's hard to trust God's timing for our family when we want things to happen now now now.

Books vs. Movies

mint striped tunic, polka dot jeans, moccs mint striped tunic, polka dot jeans, moccs mint striped tunic, polka dot jeans, moccs
Stitch Fix Tunic; Gap Factory Jeans (similar); Minnetonka Moccs (here); Necklace via Sassy Steals

Styling this top up again. I basically want to live in this tunic, so you`re really quite lucky you`re not seeing it more often.

J and I went to see Divergent last night. Since I loved the book, I wasn`t too sure I wanted to see the movie. I have this thing where I get disappointed when the movie is different than how the book was in my head. Unrealistic, but true. But, I am happy to say that Divergent the movie held up pretty well. Not perfect, but also not ridiculously disappointing.
