Back

Oh hi internet! I'm glad to be back after a crazy weekend. We had a freak storm roll through our little town on Friday night. It took town dozens of trees, power lines, and basically shut things done for a few days. We were without power until Monday afternoon and without internet until Tuesday. The devastation was crazy and things are just now starting to get back to normal.

This skirt is one of those pieces that I can't seem to get rid of. I adore the print, but I hardly ever wear it for the same reason. What do you pair with a bold floral print on a beige background? Denim and lace usually works.

BTW, we're super close to being able to apply for our adoption if you'd still like to donate!

Weekend

denim jacket, floral top, maxi skirt, sandals denim jacket, floral top, maxi skirt, sandals

Happy Sunday! How's your weekend been? Ours is busy, as always. My husband works on Saturdays, so I usually spend the day working too. Sundays are full of church, errands, and prep for the week ahead. It's usually not until Monday that we get a chance to breath! Jeremy is off work and I only have a few hours of work, so it's kind of our Saturday.

Bruno had to sneak into a few of these photos. He's a ball of energy, but a lot of fun.

I wore this to meet a friend for coffee recently. I was crazy excited to find this sweatshirt at the thrift store. The fancy sweatshirt trend is one I've been wanting to try out and it does not disappoint. Socially acceptable pajamas all the way.

Grace Upon Grace

Guess what you guys? I finally found my tripod. And I fixed my remote. Maybe we can get this blog back on track now.

This tunic was an exciting purchase. There's a consignment store that I love to go to but never buy anything. It's not that they have bad prices or a poor selection, I've just never found anything that stuck my fancy enough that I felt the need to take it home. Well last month I found this cute little tunic and for $5 it was mine. It's perfect paired with leggings and I think it'll be a great summer piece as well.

Happy Sunday.

Scratching the Itch

Do you ever get that itch? The itch to just get away, to see something new, to explore? Jeremy and I responded to the itch this past weekend and escaped to Frankenmuth, MI. A mere 1.5 hours from our home, it was the perfect weekend trip.

Frankenmuth, MI

Frankenmuth is known as Michigan's little Bavaria. The entire town has a distinctly German feel in everything from the arcitecture to the food.

J and I have been so, so worn out. It was really strange not to travel around Christmas, and I was left feeling like we had to do something. This weekend could not have come at a more perfect time. J started college today (eeek!) so it was the perfect way to recharge and get our energy up for the long semester ahead.

What did you do this weekend?

Moving Angst

Guys...I'm really tired. We are now 2 days away from our move and although I'm excited, I'm so ready for it to be over. I've been packing, organizing movers, packing, planning quick meals for during the move, packing, running to the store to make sure we have everything we need, and packing. I'm sure I don't have to tell any of you this, but moving is stressful. I have high hopes though that this one will be our last for a while. Jeremy and I will celebrate 3 years married in a few weeks and we've moved as many times. Cross your fingers that this is it.

Oh, by the way, this is day 8. See Day 1Day 2Day 3Day 4Day 5Day 6, Day 7 and Day 9.

The Hope That Leads Me

little black dress, bright scarf, jeggings, booties little black dress, bright scarf, jeggings, booties
Target Dress; Dress Barn Jeggings; Thrifted Scarf and Boots

There's an outlet mall about 45 minutes from where we live. We've lived here over a year now and somehow I've never been. So yesterday, we jumped in the car and headed out. I gotta say...I was a little disappointed. The prices were about the same as regular stores and the selection wasn't that good. I did walk away with a new bra though from the Hanes outlet, drastically discounted for breast cancer awareness month. So there's that.

What was more exciting was the antique and consignment store we found downtown. Much more our speed. :-)

How has your weekend been?

Francesca's Dress as a Top, $16 (similar)
Thrifted Vintage Skirt, $3 (similar)

This outfit has been on my "to wear" list for a few weeks now. I finally wore it to church this morning to stay cool in this 90 degree heat.

I'm in the middle of a few weeks off work. It was a little unexpected, but it's rather nice. I've been doing some crocheting, lots of reading, and a little TV watching.

What have you been up to lately?

The Nanny Uniform

I definitely have a pattern when it comes to dressing for work. It goes something like: jeans, flats, and something interesting on the top. I try to wear well fitting, yet comfortable jeans, and stay away from boxy tee shirts. Here's a peek into this past week:

Tuesday
striped tee, bright cardi, straight legged ankle jeans
Thrifted Tee, Cardi, and Jeans; Gap Flats; Handmade Necklace via Etsy

These jeans are one of my most recent thrift finds and I love them! They fit perfectly, the wash is great, and I love the straight leg that ends right at my ankle. I rarely find jeans (thrifted or new) that don't require some sort of tailoring so this is a big win.

Wednesday
striped peasant top, skinnies, moccs

This top is so comfortable but I can see now that It needs to be hemmed. Otherwise I loved this outfit. So comfortable.

Thursday
floral top, purple jeans
Thrifted Top; JCPenney Jeans; Payless Flats; INPink Earrings

I felt like kind of genius on Wednesday night when I realized this top could go with these jeans. There are really tiny purple flowers on the top that really popped against these jeans. I think now I've paired this top with every pair of pants I own. Yay remixing!

Do you have a daily uniform?

Weekend Wear: Remixed

distressed tee, floral skirt
distressed tee, floral skirt

Target Tee, $10
Vintage Thrifted Skirt, $3 (similar)
Gap Flats, $5 (similar)
Walmart Earrings, $3

This is my attempt at trying to mix up my clothes in new ways. I always want to style this skirt in a girly/fancy way, but I decided to try pairing it with a simple tee and see how it went. The result? Meh. Not terrible, but I think a different tee would be better.

In other news, I'm kind of in that whole "so overwhelmed I don't know where to start so I'll do nothing" spot at the moment. I want to move so badly since it just seems to get noisier here everyday (I'm typing this post with ear plugs in to keep out the neighbor's rap music) but I also do not want to pack. This will be our 3rd move in 2 years, which does not make me happy. Add that to the noise, which just leaves me in a constant state of angry and frustrated, you have one very cranky Faith. I don't want to read, I don't want to put on clothes,  I just keep trying to tell myself that a month from now we'll be all settled into our new place and this stress will hopefully be a distant memory.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Wedding Wear: Floral Maxi

Hello! I wanted to get this outfit up real quick  before we head home. Jeremy and I made a quick trip up north to attend a friend's wedding and visit my parents this weekend. It's been so much fun, just way, way too short.

I had a great time at the wedding catching up with friends I haven't seen in years! The wedding was for a friend of mine from high school. I was part of a gang of about 5 girls who were all pretty much inseparable from 4th grade until graduation. We've gotten together a few times since then, but we all went off to different schools and now that's we're all growing up and getting married it's just getting harder to do so. It's so great that we can all pick up right where we left off whenever we see each other. Makes me feel so blessed to have gone to a small school and have had such great friends. While chatting yesterday we all agreed that the although we did not miss high school one bit, we all missed each other and the camaraderie we enjoyed.

Hope we all are having a wonderful weekend!

Thrifted Dress, $3 (similar)
Thrifted Cardi, $2
Minnetonka Moccs via TJ Maxx, $30 (exactly)
Kohl's Earrings, $5

We've had nothing but rain here this week, so here's an outfit from a week or so ago that never got posted. I wasn't a huge fan of the photos...I think this would have done better without the cardi. But I love this dress. It's so comfortable and I'm sure it will make many more appearances this summer.

Not much else to report...we looked at a house earlier this week that we like but it needs some work done so we're still thinking on it. It's not what I would call the perfect house. It's small, not much bigger than our current apartment. And it needs work. And the type of financing it requires would pretty much suck our bank account dry. BUT, it's the only house we've found in our budget that meets our criteria in a month of looking. So with all that plus a few other factors, it's kind of been consuming my thoughts this week. Decisions, decisions...

Anyhow...I hope you all enjoy your weekend! :-)

Weekend Wear: City Girl

Parking garage photos. Am I a city blogger now? Naw...although it was a lot of fun to have all that space to ourselves to take photos in...

I started out this week feeling really good, which hasn't happened in a very long time. I have been the queen of moodiness the last few months. I think it's a combination of lack of sleep (see: crazy loud neighbors) and the cold. I usually cope just fine with months of clouds, snow, and cold weather, but this last winter hit me hard. I haven't been happy living in the city, I've been worried about money and jobs and health insurance, and this past winter just amplified it all.

I'm finally starting to feel more content here. It took a long time (at least it felt like it) to make friends in our large church, but I'm finally to the point where I see someone I know every Sunday, which is wonderful. We're looking for a house and have high hopes of getting out of the city before the summer is over. Jeremy and I both have steady work and health insurance. I also started taking some vitamin D a few weeks ago and that has made a huge difference in my mood. Who knew that was something you actually needed...?

So here's to a new week. May yours be amazing. :-)

I used to be very anti-seasonal clothes.  I wanted my wardrobe to be as versatile as possible, and with the exception of sweaters and shorts, I wanted everything I owned to be wearable year round.  But last fall I decided to put away a few of my skirts and dresses for the winter that were more summery. I am now really glad that I did. Pulling this skirt and all the others out of storage a few weeks ago was like Christmas. I instantly felt refreshed by these "new" clothes and re-inspired to shop my own closet.

So go ahead and put away those winter sweaters, long sleeved dresses, and whatever else feels wintery to you in your wardrobe. I gladly did, and now I can't wait to rediscover those pieces come fall!

I love this outfit.  So much that I wore it twice last week.  This top is the perfect floral piece, and although it's modern, it looks vintage.  Also: it's super comfy.  Best top ever.

In other news, we are officially house hunting!!  Jeremy and I have been talking about buying our own home for over a year, and now that we're relatively settled in here with steady jobs, we've decided that it's time.  Also, our lease is up in 4 months, our neighbors are crazy, and I'm sick of the city.  So yeah...it's time. :-)

What exciting things have you been up to lately?

JC Penney Skinny Ankle Jeans, $25 (exactly)

This has kind of been my uniform lately.  Now that the snow is gone and the clouds have disappeared, I can't get enough of my flats! And jewelry instead of a scarf! Amazing.

It must be the change in seasons that gets people re-evaluating their thoughts on blogging because I've read several posts this week on that subject. I must say that I have had similar thoughts lately.  I haven't been posting as often as I'd like to, I haven't been experiencing the increase in stats that I'd like to see, and sometimes I feel downright selfish and narcissistic for posting photos of myself on the internet.  But at the end of the day, I realize that I like my little blog.  And even more than that, I like all of you.  I love the relationships that I've developed, and the amazing women in the style blogging world that I've gotten to know.  I'm super excited to be meeting up with Stacia in a few weeks, and hope I can meet even more of you in the future!

And that, is worth sticking around for.

I usually try to wear skirts on the weekend since I wear pants all week.  However, this past weekend called for these super comfy cords with a white top and heels...things I'd never wear while nannying.  I then decided to take it a step further and add the floral bracelet and pearly headband.  Probably the most girly look I've sported in a while.

Also, this is basically the cheapest outfit ever.  Kinda proud right now.

Somehow this skirt and my green dress in the last post got forgotten about until now.  Sad. They're both great pieces to remix. :-)

Not much to say today...due to the schedule of the family I work for, I get a whopping two week break surrounding the holidays!  I'm so excited.  My vacation starts 4pm Friday and it can't come soon enough.

Any exciting holiday plans for you all?

I wore this on Tuesday to go vote! Had I known I'd be standing in line for TWO WHOLE HOURS I'd have worn some flatter shoes.  Michigan really needs to get in on the whole early voting thing.  Although I'm glad to have the opportunity to vote, that was a bit silly.

I've been having a bit of trouble finding another nannying gig.  I'm not really sure why; I've been applying, following up, all that jazz, but I've had very few replies.  It's a bit discouraging.  I was supposed to have an interview today, but it was cancelled.  No explanation as to why.  I asked if we could reschedule... no response.  Part of me wonders if one of my references is telling potential employers that I have diabetes before I have a chance to myself.  Which is frustrating on an entirely different level.

I just want another job.  Or at least a chance at another job.
