Scratching the Itch

Do you ever get that itch? The itch to just get away, to see something new, to explore? Jeremy and I responded to the itch this past weekend and escaped to Frankenmuth, MI. A mere 1.5 hours from our home, it was the perfect weekend trip.

Frankenmuth, MI

Frankenmuth is known as Michigan's little Bavaria. The entire town has a distinctly German feel in everything from the arcitecture to the food.

J and I have been so, so worn out. It was really strange not to travel around Christmas, and I was left feeling like we had to do something. This weekend could not have come at a more perfect time. J started college today (eeek!) so it was the perfect way to recharge and get our energy up for the long semester ahead.

Welcome Fall

I'm definitely one of those crazy people that starts wearing their boots and breaking out the fall decor no matter what the weather is come September. It was still in the 80s when we visited the cider mill this weekend, but it was a lot of fun. We can't wait to go back later when the pumpkin patch is open.

Touristy

This past weekend Jeremy had a rare Saturday off work. We had all kinds of different ideas on places to go and things to do, but we eventually realized that there was quite a few things we've been meaning to do right here in our own town. So we played tourist for the day, our main stops being the Michigan State University Dairy Store and horticultural gardens. It was a great time to visit since none of the students are back yet.

We also visited the American Apparel and Urban Outfitters downtown (no buys, just looked) and finished the day off with dinner at our favorite Mediterranean restaurant and a bit of thrifting. It was a great day and felt so good to relax a bit after the stress of the last month.

I wore this last Saturday while we explored the Grand Haven area.  These pictures were taken up at the West Ottawa Sand Dunes.  If you want a workout, go walk some sand dunes.  It's a lot of fun, and the view at the top is great, but holy cow...you will hurt when you're done.

A Weekend in West Michigan

Jeremy and I escaped the city for a quick weekend in west Michigan.  We spent Saturday in Grand Haven, then headed south on Sunday to Holland.  We had so much fun, and felt so refreshed upon our return!  It's been hard over the last 7ish months to make time for things like this, but it's so necessary!  We didn't have to spend much money or go very far to enjoy ourselves. Here's a few of my favorite snaps from the weekend:

We can't wait to get out and see more of our beautiful state this summer!

Over The Weekend

I mentioned yesterday that I got a new point-and-shoot camera.  Which means I actually took some photos of our weekend. Hooray! :-)  This weekend Jeremy and I kind of played tourist in our own town by checking out an art museum at MSU and going antiquing.  This is the first full weekend we've both had off in a while so we tried to take advantage of it!

Pictured Rocks

Last week Jeremy and I took a day trip up to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (of Kid Rock fame).  This is somewhere we've been meaning to go for several years, so it was great to finally have time!

Lake Superior is quite cold this time of year. Well...every time of year, to be honest.

Hope you're enjoying your long weekend! Happy Memorial Day! :-)
