An Adventure in Menswear

Top: Husband's
Blazer: Apt 9 - Thrifted ($10)
Jeans: Old Navy ($30)
Pin: Gramma's
Lips: Covergirl "Flame" Lipstick

This is so out of my comfort zone and different for me.  I like it though.

I took a little inspiration from this, which I stumbled across just yesterday.

Source: google.com via Faith on Pinterest

Have you guys ever seen Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat?  Cause I was in it my senior year of high school, and that's what this blazer was purchased for.  I was the narrator.  I couldn't find any really good pictures, but basically, she wears business attire throughout the play. I'm pretty sure that's the one and only time I wore this thing.

Anyway, I tried to add a little girlyness to this with the red lips and pin.  And...I don't know what else to say about this outfit.

So, happy Tuesday!

Fishtail It!

Top: Old Navy (clearance, $2.50)
Jeans: Levis - Shopko ($20)
Shoes: Dexter - Payless ($25)

I rarely take the time to do much with my hair besides straightening it.  I'm no good at it, and it frustrates me.  However, I bucked up and managed a fishtail braid for today's challenge.  I've seen a few tutorials this summer, and it looked way cute.

I know the "cool" thing to do is make it really loose, but I just don't have enough hair for that.  A loose braid is a braid that will fall out quickly with me.

This was my second try, and I think it turned out pretty cute. :)  I love the way this looks on really long hair!

I hope your Monday finds you well.  Mine kind of bit me in the bum today, but things are looking up. :)

Let the Lips do the Talking

Top: JC Penney (?)
Pants: Secondhand
Shoes: Shopko ($5)
Lips: Covergirl "Eternal" Lipstick ($6)

I had a hard time with this today.  I had a brown top and cardigan on with these pants, with the intention of wearing red shoes, but the cardigan was just too warm.  So, I decided to wear some color on my lips.

I've been playing with lip color lately.  Although I like this one, I'm still looking for that perfect shade for me!

Yesterday marked a year since my husband and I got engaged.  So today we went through the McD's drive thru for lunch, and took it to the park, just as we did that day a year ago. :)  That's where we took these photos.  Then we headed into the big city where we did a bit of shopping and saw "One Day".  It wasn't super amazing, but still good.  My husband and I both walked out of there appreciating each other all the more.  Sometimes I forget how very blessed we really are.

Jeans Can Be Classy

Tee: Old Navy (clearance, $2.50)
Jeans: Old Navy ($30)
Cardigan: Thrifted ($2)
Shoes: Dexter - Payless ($26)
Scarf: Old Navy (clearance, $8)
Total outfit cost: $68.50

My outfit photos have been borderline atrocious this week.  I have no idea why.  It seems the harder I try, the worse it gets.

These photos also remind me why I don't wear tees much anymore.  I have a tum, and they are not flattering. But my husband picked out these shoes.  Totally not something I would have bought for myself, but I like them.

Anyway...it's Friday. :)  This week totally got away from me.  I guess that's a good thing, as some weeks just drag on and on!  Next weekend is also Labor Day weekend, which feels really early.  That really snuck up on me too.  In any case, I'm ready to relax and enjoy the weekend with my husband.  Hope yours is awesome, and stay safe if you're in the path of the hurricane!

The Pink Dress

Flip Flops: So - Kohl's ($7)
Scarf: Burlington ($7)
Ring: Charlotte Russe ($1.50)
Total outfit cost: $35.50

I LOVE this dress! It's probably the most flattering and comfortable thing I own.  I'm seriously considering ordering it in a few more colors.

I don't know about you, but it's a rainy, dreary day around here.  I feel bright and sunny in this dress! :)

I gotta say, I'm really enjoying this challenge.  I'm wearing things that probably otherwise wouldn't have been worn in this way, and it's really giving me motivation to dress in these last days of summer.  So...thanks Kayla! :)

Save the Pants!

Tee: Old Navy (clearance, $2.50)
Capri's: Secondhand
Boots: Wanted - The Shoe Dept. ($32)
Earrings: Walmart ($3)
Bag: Charlotte Russe (clearance and with discount, $10)
Total outfit cost: $47.50

This is my new bag! I've been wanting to show it off, cause I really like it. :)  I've never had a "cross body" bag before, and I have no idea why.  It's so nice to have while shopping...hands free!
Just for future reference, I usually pick a bag and use it for like 3 months before switching to a new one.  It therefore won't be factored into my outfit costs (unless I feel like showing it off, like today :)).

So these pants are my closet orphan.  My aunt gave them to me about 3 years ago, and as cute as they are, I somehow forgot all about them this summer.  I rediscovered them just last week, and vowed to give them a little love through the fall.

I bought these earrings for my senior prom.  I actually had a date, the boy I had a crush on at the time.  It was exciting, I wore a navy blue halter tee length dress that my mom made.  It was the only real date I had in high school.  Yeah...I didn't exactly hang with the popular crowd.  I had a total of 2 dates EVER before I met my husband.  Oh well...I like it better that way. :)

I am currently on the hunt for a similar pair of black boots, but I'd like them flat, and with a good tread on them.  That's really the only downside to these...I bought them last fall and they make me slip and slide all over in the winter snow and ice.
There are some really cute Steve Madden ones at one of our local shoe stores.  I might have to put out the extra money and get them.

I've seen other bloggers rocking this nail look.  I was a little bored yesterday and decided to give it a go.  I still can't decide if I like it...I rarely, if ever, paint my fingernails anything other than a really light or sheer pink. It makes me feel bold though.

I'm work, work, working away on my store again today.  I slept late, but it was kind of nice.  Last weekend was a lot of running around for my husband's work, and it left me a little tired.

Happy Wednesday!

Purple

Dress: Charlotte Russe (clearance and with discount, $10)
Cardigan: Thrifted ($3)
Shoes: Dexter - Payless ($25)
Necklaces: Gift, Gramma's ($0)
Ring: Charlotte Russe (clearance and with discount, $1.50)
Total outfit cost: $39.50

This is a fun outfit.  I don't think these three pieces would have ever been paired together if not for this challenge.

Both the cardigan and dress are recent acquisitions.  I bought the dress with fall in mind, and plan on pairing it with other cardigans and boots.  I was a little concerned it would be too short to be worn on it's own, but alas, my short legs come through once again. :)

I bought these shoes for my wedding.  My bridesmaids wore this shade of purple.  I feel like a bit of trendsetter now, because I saw a TON of weddings this summer utilizing the exact same color (my wedding was almost a year ago)!  It is a lovely shade. :)

Today I'm hard at work on my online store, creating new cards and such out of images I've used on my photo blog the last few weeks.  I feel so behind! I used to work on this a few days a week, but we've been gone to much that it's fallen to the side.  I'm excited to get back on it though!

Happy Tuesday. :)

The Casual Kitty

Tee: Gift ($0)
Skirt: Thrifted ($4)
Shoes: American Eagle - Payless ($5)
Scarf: Walmart ($5)
Necklace: Self-Made (approx. $6)
Kitty: Priceless
Outfit total: $20

The cat could not resist getting into my outfit photos today...
That thing in your hand looks like fun....

So this is my take on the dressy/casual look.  This is an outfit I've had in the back of my mind for a few weeks, so today was the perfect day to wear it!  As versatile as a black pencil skirt is, it strikes me as "dressy".  This is a great skirt though, and I could probably wear it with just about anything.

Fall is coming my friends. I woke up to a cool 56 degrees this morning. Lovely. :)

Layers, Layers

Dress: Old Navy (clearance, $11)
Cami: Kohl's ($4)
Cardigan: Thrifted ($3)
Shoes: Payless ($25)
Scarf and Necklace: Gramma's ($0)
Belt: Charlotte Russe (clearance, $3.50)
Total outfit cost: $46.50

I think it's cool when people break down the cost of their outfits to show that style doesn't have to cost a fortune. I rarely buy anything full price myself, so from now on, I'm gonna try and do that on my posts.  Some of my items are old, but I'll give you my best guess each time.  And I'll try and link to them if they're still available online.  I JUST got this belt in the mail yesterday, but alas, it's not online anymore!  Bummer.

I love this little dress. It was the only one of it's kind on the clearance rack at Old Navy yesterday, and in my size too!  It was meant to be.
It almost feels like the belt was made for it. I'm not a huge fan of wide belts, but this one paired so perfectly with the dress.

My layering contribution for the day: scarf + necklace.  This is one of my favorite ways to accessorize.  For some reason I don't really care for the look for more than one necklace on myself, but I like a scarf.
So, this is what I wore to church on this rainy Sunday. :)

Creativity

Top and Scarf: Thrifted
Jeans and Wedges: Old Navy
Necklace: Craft Fair
Pin: Don't recall
Ring: Was my Momma's (Sarah Coventry)

I had a completely different idea for today.  I have a super long jean skirt that would have made a lovely dress.  But I put it on this morning and as soon as I put my hair up it threw the outfit off.  So I changed my clothes.  And then I changed them again.  And then I wore this.

The belt is my creative contribution for today.  I pinned up a scarf and called it a belt.

I much prefer these shoes with my skinny jeans.  I really had fun wearing them today; I felt super tall, long, and lean while we were out shopping.  I did swap them out for flip flops halfway through the day, as I don't wear shoes this high often and I was starting to feel it.  I'm sure once they're broken in, and they break ME in, they'll be a frequent wear.

Belt It Up!

Orange Tank and Wedges: Old Navy
White Tank: Walmart
Belt: Off of Target Dress
Jeans: Levis (Shopko)
Owl Ring: Charlotte Russe
Earrings: Claire's

Similar Tank,Wedge

Today's challenge: Belt it!

I'm a bit of newbie to the world of belting, but I love it!  Definitely one of my new favorite things to do with an outfit.
This top is one of my recent Old Navy finds from earlier this week.  I also got one in white, and I'm thinking they'll be great layering pieces. I can't wait to pair them with cardigans and skirts in the fall!
Also, I went for the wedges from my wishlist earlier this week!  This is their first wear and I already really like them.  I get some nice height, and they're comfy.  Win.

Today is kind of a waiting game; my husband is done with a week of training, and I'm waiting for the green light to go pick him up.  I'm glad he's coming home, but I hate the waiting!

Color Pops

Dress: Homemade
Red Under-Top: Walmart
Shoes: Payless
Belt: Thrifted
Earrings: Claire's

So this outfit turned out WAY cuter than I thought it would!

Similar Items: Dress Shoes Belt

Today's challenge is "color blocking"!  This is something I do all the time anyway, but I wanted to make it a bit more obvious, and I wanted to wear this dress.  I wrote about making this a while back, but have been hesitant to wear it.  This has changed my mind.  I can see now that all it needed was a belt and a pair of heels! :)

It's also a great dress to just wear around the house, which is exactly what I'm doing today.  Cleaning, blogging, and finishing up a crochet project are on my agenda today!

Happy Thursday!

Floral + Plaid

This post is brought to you by Freckles in April's 21 Day Challenge
Button up top: Thrifted
Floral Top: Sears
Jeans: JC Penney
Boots: Payless
Earrings: Etsy

So yesterday I discovered Freckles in April's blog and her awesome 21 day challenge!  I'm a few days late, but I'm excited to give this a go!  Today's challenge was pattern mixing

Looking at these pictures now, I would have gone with different shoes.  Oh well...this is why I style blog. :)

I spent the morning doing some shopping, then met up with a friend to hang out for a while.  I'm super excited about the 2 dresses, sweater, shoes, 2 tanks, and jacket I got! :)  I also got $50 in Old Navy cash to spend next week!

I do really like how my makeup turned out today.  I used some CoverGirl Trublend Pressed Powder
I got for the first time and was amazed at the coverage!  I hate wearing liquid foundation, and this provides a nice bit of coverage without feeling heavy.

I hope your Wednesday was lovely. :)
