So I mentioned the I recently read Overdressed. One of the things she suggests to combat the machine that is fast fashion is to refashion your own clothes. It's something I occasionally do anyway, but I've really been trying to take that seriously lately and make my clothes my own/get more use out of what I have. Part of that is downsizing my closet, part of it is changing things up a bit.
Take this skirt for instance. It was a dress that I thrifted a while ago, but it's been hanging in my closet unworn. I loved the pattern and full skirt, but hated the top and the fact that the torso was too long for me. Solution? Chop off the top.
I didn't even have to fix up the waist since it was already elastic. Simplest refashion ever, and I love it so much more now. I even wore it out over the weekend to celebrate my birthday with my husband. :-)

I love it as a skirt, you're going to have an eeeeasy time of wearing an awesome polka dot skirt all the way through fall. I'll also mention that your hair looks seriously amazing- I adore how perfectly it flips and the nice volume at the top.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kate! I totally agree, it's gonna be so easy to remix this way!
DeleteI'm really excited that I won! I will now compulsively check my mailbox daily :)
ReplyDeleteI like your dress as a skirt much better. I've recently started going through my wardrobe and refashioning pieces that I don't wear but don't want to get rid of, for example I had a sweater that I never wore, I turned it into a cardigan and wear it much more often.
Yay! Good for you! It might sound weird, but I love getting rid of my stuff. So refreshing. :-)
DeleteOh, I love this refashioning! You did a great job, Faith! And the finished product is adorable! I really love it belted and worn with the denim jacket!
