{Book Review} Messy Beautiful Love

You all know I love a good book.

When I got the opportunity to get an advance copy of Darlene Schacht's new book, Messy Beautiful Love, I jumped at the chance. I love books about marriage and how to make it better, so I was SO excited to read this one.

It did not disappoint.

MBL is full of not only solidly biblical marriage advice, but personal stories and practical application. Schacht is funny and approachable in this book, but she also lays it all on the line. Her personal experience adds so much to this topic; you definitely know that she's been there and lived it.

This book covers everything from choosing kindness to biblical submission. I particularly loved her chapter on stepping back and allowing your husband to lead, an area I often struggle with. She writes:

"You see, I knew in my head I was called to submit to my husband, but I hadn't taken it to heart because doing so would have meant that I had to lay down my life as I knew it for the good of my marriage. It was easy to be submissive in some areas of my life - and I did so joyfully - but I wasn't ready to let go completely. When I finally realized that my marriage was crumbling under the weight of my sin, I understood that it was not only worth fighting for; it was worth dying for. If I was going to make this marriage work, I'd have to give up my silly notions that I know what's best for my life and trust God with my future. Free-falling into the arms of my Savior, I chose His will over mine." -pages 79-80

I could share so many more snippets like that one, but for now I'll just encourage you to read it. Messy Beautiful Love comes out September 16, but it's available for pre-order now. When you pre-order, you also get a pack of awesome freebies, including other great books! Head over to this link for all the details. And be sure to look through her awesome blog, Time Warp Wife!

Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of this book free of charge in exchange for promoting it. As always, all opinions are my own.
