In your excitement, you decide you'll wear it the very next day. You proudly put it on in the morning, pairing it with the perfect accessories, and march off to work. Your coworker/friend approaches you just minutes after you arrive. You're expecting her to compliment you on your latest find, but instead she leans in close and whispers: "I can see your underwear right through your skirt!!"
Oops.
Yeah, we've all been there. If you're lucky you might notice before you leave the store, but most of the time you just don't. Companies are making garments thinner and thinner and we've gotten used to this trend. Fortunately, there's a cheap, easy solution.
The slip.

Reasons I love slips:
- Slips can take that risque little dress and make it wearable.
- Slips are cheap. I bought both mine at the thrift store for $0.99 each.
- They're comfortable. Elastic waist plus silky fabric? Yes.

I highly recommend both a knee length and full length slip. I wear my knee length one the most, but the full length is perfect for maxi dresses.
Another thing that excites me about slips is that come winter they'll provide a barrier between my leggings and skirts. There's nothing more annoying than a cotton dress that keeps sticking to my leggings. A slip will easily prevent this.
Would you wear a slip?
Agreed. Slips can help clothing lay better in general.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes. Slips forever!
DeleteSlips are the best things in my closet. But finding them in any store other then a specific under garment store and/or a thrift store is impossible. A lot of the sales girls at department stores don't even know what slips are.
ReplyDeleteI only a million slips. I even got THE CUTEST "combination" slip at a thrift store last summer - it's a silky little romper to wear under dresses.
So true! Before checking the thrift store I looked all over in regular stores for them. They just don't exist, which I found amazing! That romper would be great! Sounds so comfy.
DeleteAs a teacher, I think a lot about whether my clothing is appropriate. I usually do the sunlight test (hold the garment up in front of a sunny window to figure out how opaque or sheer it really is!) I never thought of buying slips at the thrift store, but it's a great idea ...I bought mine from JCPenney's online.
ReplyDeleteI do that too! Sometimes I'm still not sure and I stand in front of our sliding glass door and ask my husband. :-)
