Pinned It, Did It: Baking Soda Air Freshener

DIY baking soda air freshener

I found this on pinterest a few months ago (all credit to The Burlap Bag for this great idea) and immediately made one of my own. This air freshener is so simple, and it works. All you need is 2 ingredients plus something to put it in.

Baking soda and essential oil. That's it. If you want something that doesn't smell, you could definitely go without the essential oil. But I love the lavender smell. I've made a few with peppermint too that also smell great. Or you could even use vanilla extract. So many possibilities!

Simply put about 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda in your container and add 10-15 drops of essential oil. Mix it up and put it anywhere you want. My favorite place to use these is the bathroom. I think I've had one of the back of the toilet for months and it makes a huge difference.

This will last about a month before the baking soda starts to get hard and quits absorbing smells. Then I simply toss it out and start over. I like to shake it up every once in a while too just to release more of the lavender smell into the air.

Have you pinned and done any great projects lately?

  1. Looks great! I frequently just use straight vinegar as an air freshener - of course, if you stand too closer to it all you smell is salad dressing! =)

    1. I've done that too! Vinegar is great for strong smells. I once broke a perfume bottle on the bathroom floor and that was the only thing that worked to get the smell out!
