Last week I spotted this adorable kids cardigan in the email I get each and every day from Very Jane (which you should definitely be subscribed to, if you're not already!). My first thought: that's adorable. Second thought: I could totally DIY that.
First step: pick out the cardi you want to monogram. I picked this little white one I thrifted probably about 5 years ago when I was in college. It was long overdue for a revamp!
Next, pick out some fabric for your letter. You don't need much; just a scrap will do. I used the top of a dress I refashioned last fall.

Hoarding pays off eventually. |
Then, draw your letter. I just free-handed mine. I also did it on the back of the fabric with marker, and therefore had to do it backwards. However, if you have chalk and can do it on the front, that would be way better. :-)
Cut it out and pin it to your cardigan.
I picked a zig-zag stitch on my sewing machine, just because. :-) If you want your looking a little cleaner without visible stitches, you could probably use some fabric glue or iron-on transfer sheets.
Sew it on, and you're done! Step back and admire your handiwork!
This was such a simple, quick project! I probably spent somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes on it, and now I have a totally new cardigan! Yeah, the stitches are a little crooked, but I honestly feel like that gives it some character.
Woohoo! Have you DIY'd anything recently?
Wow, that's adorable! Especially with the zigzag stitch, gives it even more character!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I love it! =) Sounds like a project I'll have to do, and soon. I've only got about 102910841038754 pounds of fabric scraps around...
ReplyDeleteadorable, very fitting with the varsity theme going around!

"I could totally DIY that" sounds too familiar! But, I never really do it! I love how it turned out :) makes the plain cardigan so much more fun :) x
ReplyDeleteI love this cardigan! Sporty and retro, my kind of thing. And thanks for the sweet comment on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable. And it reminds me of this alphabet brooch I meant to DIY a long time ago but never got around to - better dust off my craft kit!
ReplyDeleteaweome DIY! I love that the letter is dotted!
