Closet Purge Thoughts

Top: Old Navy (clearance, $5)
Cardigan: Thrifted ($3)
Scarf: Target ($14)
Skirt: DIY'd from a pair of jeans ($20 for jeans)
Wedges: Old Navy ($30)
Total outfit cost: $73

I feel like this outfit didn't photograph very well.  I need to remember to tell Jeremy to get down a little lower when I wear heels so the angle is better.

I made this skirt from a pair of jeans late last week.  I've been wanting a denim pencil skirt for a while, so I finally just went ahead and made one. :)

I did a major closet purge last night.  I got rid of a lot of sweat pants, sweat shirts, and tops that I never wear anymore.  I finally realized that:

  • It's ok to get rid of something I once got as a gift and I don't like/doesn't fit.
  • It's ok to get rid of something I have a sentimental attachment to.
  • It's ok to get rid of something that has been hanging around in my closet for years waiting for that magical day when I lose 10 lbs.
  • It's ok to get rid of something I really thought I could make work, but just can't.
  • It's ok to get rid of something I bought fairly recently, and then realized I didn't love as much as I thought I did.
Whew.  Yeah...that was a much needed purge. :)

I'm also realizing that I really enjoy thrifty living, clothing included.  The challenge of seeing how little I can subsist on is awesome, and I love building my wardrobe on thrifted and clearanced items.  So as part of that, I'm trying to get back into posting my outfit costs.  I quit for a while simply because a lot of my clothes are so old I don't remember how much I paid for them!  I'm gonna do my best though!

  1. great post - I routinely do closet purges - did one last night when I realized that the pants I was wearing I hated. And I had TWO pairs. just need to wait for one to get out of the laundry before it goes into the give-away bag. :)

  2. @Maggie B. That's great Maggie! I try and do regular purges too every few months. It's so much easier to dress when you have things around that you truly love!

  3. True fact. I usually keep my purge bag around too, in case I'm suddenly like "what did I do what that blouse"....
