The Chicago Skirt

So this isn't a 30 for 30 outfit. Just one I'm darn proud of and wanted to share.

Tee: Walmart
Skirt and Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Gap
Necklace: Faith Sandahl Photography
Bangles: Charlotte Russe

I've seen Kendi and others jazz up a white tee with a funky skirt like this.  This is my take on the look.  I literally woke up at 5am and thought of this outfit.  Weird, but it works!

So here's the story of this skirt. I was on a mission trip to Chicago my senior year of high school, and a bunch of other girls in my youth group and I decided we were gonna walk down the street from where we were staying to a thrift store.  At said thrift store, this skirt was found.  It was passed around to everyone, until it came to me, and I was the only one that it fit.  It was declared that the skirt was meant to be mine, and I walked away with it.  To this day, it is known amongst my high school friends at "the Chicago skirt".

Why this outfit is a big deal: I NEVER tuck in my shirts.  EVER.  I always feel like it makes my torso shorter, and that is exactly what I try to avoid the most when I dress.  That fact that I actually like this look tucked in is AMAZING to me.  I've noticed on others that with the addition of a belt, the shortened torso look seems to be negated.

Also this skirt is loud.  It's bright, and attracts attention, which is why I don't wear it much.  But I've decided that today, I'm ok with that.  I can sympathize with Kendi in that, when living in a small town, one gets a lot of stares for dressing in more than a oversized tee, jeans, and camo.  Even in yesterday's outfit, as simple as it was, I got a lot of looks when I went out to lunch.  So I guess if they're gonna stare, they might as well really stare. Right? :)
